Commercial Description:
Earning 91 points in 1997, our Thunder Hole Ale won first place and its second Gold Medal at the World Beer Championships in Chicago. Locally brewed Thunder Hole Ale scored higher than Pete's Wicked, Newcastle Brown, Sam Adams, as well as many other Brown Ales from Maine and around the world. Thunder Hole Ale came in first again in 2000 with a score of 92 points! This delicious full-bodied brown ale is described by judges as malty, balanced, smooth and complex. Thunder Hole Ale goes with everything!

A: Served with a spare-sized, off-white head. Body is clear with a touch of haziness, and a dark-brown color. S: Smells of average, roasted malt. Not as robust here as I would have expected from the style. T: Taste, however, comes across much with a very nice, roasted flavor. Moderately sweet with a short duration. Nothing fantastic, but still quite respectable and enjoyable. M: Light-bodied with an oily/creamy texture. Soft carbonation. D: Quite easy to drink, the aroma is disappointing but the taste of the beer starts to make up for what lacks in the smell. A very decent entry from Bar Harbor Brewing.

Pours like Coca Cola in every way--Large bubbles that die to a flat surface. There’s even soda-like bubbles on the side of the glass. The only thing missing is the ice. Color looks like water with caramel coloring. Darker malt aroma. Some metallic elements Very spritzy. The body, in a word, is thin. This is distracting. The flavor cannot make up the difference. Darker malt (perhaps darker crystal). Mid-taste the metal shows up. Nearly no hop...the aftertaste dies quickly. The bottle features a World Beer Championship Gold Medal. I don’t see it.

In short: A very creamy and nutty (peanuts) brown ale. Enjoyable simple beer.
How: Bottle 22oz. Consumed fresh a few days after purchase.
The look: Cloudy brown body topped by a long-lasting small beige head
In long: Nose is slightly nutty, in a peanut-butter type of way. Body is very creamy and that’s the feature of the beer that dominates, creaminess. Taste of peanuts, caramel, caramel pudding, some red fruits. Nourishing. I could have done without the red fruits flavour that brings a little undesired sourness. Discreet leafy hops. Not dry at all but with a very creamy beer that’s ok. Basic simple stuff yet I don’t get creamy beers like that all that often so this was an enjoyable experience and my 22oz went down pretty quickly. A simple beer coming from an isolated northern part of USA, where log on and log off means to add or not add wood in the stove heater.

Dark brown with a quickly fading beige head. Malty nose, a bit of brown sugar, and chocolate. Nice full flavor, malt predominantly, a hint of roast, biscuits, light milk chocolate, and molasses. Medium body.

22oz bottle. Dark red-brown pour. Aroma is rich and nutty. Flavor is smooth, nutty and easy to drink. A very nice brown ale that deserves to be the flagship of this brewery.

22oz bottle. Pours redbrown, creamy brownish head. Some lemon in the aroma. Unexpectedly malty flavor based on the aroma. Some molasses with the roasted malt flavor. Solid hope backbone isn’t too strong, enough to clean the palate quickly. There’s something fruity, maybe cascade hops? Yay beer!

Deep brown color with no head. Aroma of toffee, nuts, and caramel. Flavor of malts, toffee, nuts, and caramel. A bit thin with a solid flavor.
