Bottle Julie brought from Illinois. Pours orange/copper with a slight beige head. Aroma is citrus and fruit. Med body, almost. Flavor is lightly roasty caramel, and some fruity/earthy hop. It is bitter. Might have been a big deal in 1985.

2.3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 4/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 6/20
Bottle @ home, courtesy of jcnielsen. Hy-Vee beer? FUCK YEAH! Pours a burnt orange appearance with a light brown head and pretty good retention. Caramelized malty, a bit spicy/cinnamon, generic green herbal hoppy aroma. Doesn’t smell incredibly fresh. Burnt sugar, peanut brittle, somewhat smoky, herbal hoppy, strangely sweet flavor. Ummm yeah, no.

2.9 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 11/20
Bottle. Clear bright orange pour with a small soapy white head. Nice aroma of caramel malt and floral hops. Taste is unbalanced - needs more malt backing. Finishes fairly harsh.

2.9 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 11/20
10/9/12. 12oz bottle from my parents in a care package, of all people - score random tick! Clear red pour with a medium khaki head that fades but laces fairly well. Musky, earthy hop aroma with some pine and floral aspects, and plenty of sweet malty caramel. Big malty flavor, plenty of caramel, etc., with a bitter hop kick, but not much hop character. Eh.

3.2 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
12oz bottle brought back from the midwest. Poured a clear amber color with a medium white head. Aroma was heavy hop notes - earthy character, some light pine. Flavor was earthy hops, huge malt notes, caramel. A touch more malty than I’d have liked, but it was pretty clean and easy to drink in the end.

2.3 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 8/20
A deep broze colored body with a light khaki head. Nose of grapefruit and toast. There is also some almonds. The taste has some toast with light citrus. There is also wood. Decent, but I don’t like the sweet finish.

2.4 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 4/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 9/20
Fifth in today’s series of long lost ratings from the long lost notebook.
Pours a sort of orange color with a big head and some lacing on the glass.
The aroma is grassy and citrusy with some sweet malt and a odd off putting stinkiness that I really can’t pin down as any one thing.
The flavor is bitter and floral, the malt is right there out front with both caramel and toasty malt flavor. The beer is weird because I’d call it "moderately bitter" however the bitterness dominants the flavor and very little actual hop character gets through. The beer is mildly astringent.
I don’t even know what to say here, these are available exclusively at Hy-Vee stores, most of which usually sell much better IPAs for anywhere between the exact same price as this or a dollar or two more... I can’t imagine once the "try this new thing" honeymoon is over that there will be much left for sales with a beer like this, who knows....
