In the early 1800s when Sitka’s economy depended on whale parts and animal pelts, Alexander Baranov governed the land in the name of the Russian-American Company. He must have impressed someone because they named the 1600 square mile island on which the brewery sits after him.
Our brown ale doesn’t know anything about fur trading, but its chocolate malt does make it as sweet and smooth as a baby seal.
Malts: two row, crystal, brown, chocolate, black, roasted barley, flaked oats

From the brewery in Sitka, pours a medium brown. Clear with a thick off white head. Aroma of malt and bread. Medium body with great carbonation this beer is clean and tasty. Malty with a firm toasted flavor. Some chocolate and good hop bitterness. Well balanced. Finishes with some sweetness. Nice brown ale.

Sampled at the ’12 GABBF. Hazy brown beer with a short lived beige head that left some sticky lace. Caramel corn nose. Dark caramel sweetness in the taste with roasted nutiness and a nice balance. Tastey for a style that can be plain.
