COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Tucked away at the south end of Sitkaís road system, youíll find Silver Bay. Abundant marine life and the impressive sheer face of Bear Mountain make it especially photogenic. Soon after the brewery opened, a rough and tumble bunch of girls who work at a fish processing plant on Silver Bay came in for samples and noticed our IPA was not yet named. They recommended Silver Bay IPA then attempted to wipe out our supply. Also rough and tumble, our IPA is hoppy with plenty of flavor. 6% ABV

Malts: two row, wheat, crystal, carapils

22oz bottle. Golden amber with a small off white head and some floaties/sediment. Aroma of citrus peel, toffee and earthy herbs. Flavor of sweet toasty malt, rough bitterness and some doughy yeast. Medium body with average carbonation. Not really a fan of this one, kind of rough and yeasty.

Aroma: intense floral hops, Earl Grey tea. Appearance: hazy gold, small, creamy, white head. Taste: medium bitter. Palate: floral hops intensify the bitterness, light grain malts, soft carbonation, lightly dry finish. Overall: OK English-style IPA, nice floral and grassy hops. Bottle from Sled Dog, Canyon, AK.

Sampled from the tap at the Hop Shop. Pours a clear amber gold with a white head that dissipates to the edges slowly and laces slightly. Aroma has bread and grass with a touch of earthy citrus underlying. Flavor has earthy citrus throughout with bread and grain backing.

Bomber from Malt & Vine. Pours light copper with a beigeish head. Aroma seems floral/fruit. Near full bodied. Flavor is fruit, floral, perhaps some citrus and a slightly roasted malt eventually comes forth for support. This is a tasty brew, tho it has some APA aspects. Some herb/earth aspects emerge in the finish, which is well towards dry, and very nicely bitter. Nice!

Can in Seattle. Gusher, from the can and foam overpouring the pint glass. Deep hazy golden orange, tall foam. Aroma of good sweet hops, a nice balance of citrus and pine. A lovely balance all around, nice strong hop character with solid base malts as well. Carbonation and foam are a little too much but forgiven for the very nice flavors and drinkability. This would be a welcome addition to any tap list in my book.

Draft at GABBF: Poured a copper golden with an off white head. Aroma is soft floral hops. Taste was hops, soapy, lightly bitter for an IPA.

Thick creamy tan head. good retention, good lacing. Thick opaque orange/amber body. Some sweet citrus smell comes out, floral and grains. Almost an engine oil/paint thinner burn in the back thatís a little disconcerting, but not quite as offputting as one would expect. Bitter green hops and grains. Floral and a bit of evergreen. A touch of grass and a sweet finish. Interesting and difficult to pin down. Glad my brother brought it back down from AK with him.

22. Pours a clear medium amber with no head or lace after a minute or two. Big rough piney nose, some toasty caramel, and a bit of aluminum. Flabby medium body with little carb. Bitey, somewhat hot mid palate with highly acidic resiny note, a little twang, and then a rather hot and dry finish.

Not necessarily bad, but this IPA didnít do much for me, and it came off a little rough around the edges. Carbonation was a bit too fluffy. Malt side had some scorched caramel flavors that I didnít care for. Hop side had some nice things going on, such as its notes of spruce, citrus and faint flower petals, but its hop bitterness was too stark (tree sap, bitter rind and plant stems).

UPDATED: JUN 3, 2014 Reviewed from notes. The appearance has a hazy brown body, just a film of a white head, lightly foamy white lacing. The smell has hops and caramel malts up front, and just a bit of mint coming out (different for most AIPAís Iíve had but acceptable) The taste is sweeter than most AIPAís, perhaps because of the mint thatís coming out, caramel aftertaste, sticky finish. The palate is a light to medium, sessionable, carbonation seems a bit under than most AIPAís, but still acceptable to me. Overall, I say still an AIPA, but a bit different, way to stand out Baranof, not sure where that mint is cominí from, but Iíd have this again.
