Tucked away at the south end of Sitka’s road system, you’ll find Silver Bay. Abundant marine life and the impressive sheer face of Bear Mountain make it especially photogenic. Soon after the brewery opened, a rough and tumble bunch of girls who work at a fish processing plant on Silver Bay came in for samples and noticed our IPA was not yet named. They recommended Silver Bay IPA then attempted to wipe out our supply. Also rough and tumble, our IPA is hoppy with plenty of flavor. 6% ABV

22oz bottle. Golden amber with a small off white head and some floaties/sediment. Aroma of citrus peel, toffee and earthy herbs. Flavor of sweet toasty malt, rough bitterness and some doughy yeast. Medium body with average carbonation. Not really a fan of this one, kind of rough and yeasty.

A nice deviation from a West Coast hop bomb, this IPA has a fair amount of malts to balance out the hops. Still has the bitter finish that I crave. Solid IPA albeit a little old school.

12 Oz can poured. Cloudy orange in color with a lasting foam head. Orange fruit forward aroma. Hold citrus. Flavor is a good hop profile, nice citrus, and a low bitter linger finish. Very good flavor here. Above average IPA for me.

Can:   Dirty orange, moderate foamy off-white head, fairly nice lacing.   Mild hop nose, a little touch of soil and mealiness on the nose.   Moderately bitter on the tongue.   Could use a touch of sweetness.   Moderate body and mouthfeel.   A little pithy on the finish.   Not real bright, no real sweetness, and not terribly bitter.   Very mild and pedestrian example.   You might say a bit of a snoozer.

Can. Head is initially average sized, frothy, off-white, mostly lasting. Body is hazy light to medium amber. Aroma is lightly to moderately malty (cookie, toasted grain), moderately to heavily hoppy (apricot, mandarin orange, flowers), with notes of dried apricot and kumquat. Flavor is moderately sweet, lightly to moderately acidic, lightly bitter. Finish is lightly sweet, lightly to moderately acidic, moderately bitter. Medium body, velvety texture, lively carbonation. Well, it’s nice to find the 4.1-quality stout I had from this brewery last year was no fluke...this place can brew! Beautiful fruity hop bouquet and nice malt make this one quite a joy. And just look at that appearance. Only complaint is the acidity is a bit much more my tastes, but it’s clean and delightful. Can’t wait to drink more of their stuff in the coming week or two.
