Had at Joes many times and a couple bottles from Quebec too. ALLOVATE (1126), Perth, Australia Nov 23, 2006 Tasted on draught at a lovely two-levelled bar up from Cambrinus in Rotterdam, The Netherlands. Have photos of our messy night but can’t for the life of me remember the name of the bar. Into its own frosted mug. Apparently bright, deep gold body with a lasting, thin, creamy pad of white that laced well. Honey nose, woody, floral and sweet but with evident alcohol spice to keep it grounded. Sweet but controlled honey and toffee flavours in the mouth with a peppery, slightly warming back end that rolls down with such alarming ease. Dries out slightly in the aft. Body is like liquefied honey honestly, the carbonation offering just a gentle fizz. Soft fruit tones begin to show like lemons and orange-peel giving it a gentle bitter, sour bite and manages to stop it becoming cloying. Alcohol shows and aids in warming up the swallow. This helped as when I was knocking back these Rotterdam suffered a freak weather change and the wind and rain made for a blistering cold snap. I really liked this. It plain and simple worked, had a lovely refreshing and yet heavy handed presence and went down a treat. Cheers!!!
