Aroma of malts, caramel, dark fruits, sugar, honey. Flavour is massively sweet and cloying, with a dry light bitter finish. I found the sweetness a bit much, but the aroma makes up for it. Body is nice and full. A polarised beer for me, one to admire not so much to enjoy regularly.

It’s like a honeyed dubbel or stout mix. Sweet, treacly with a full body with multiple layers of sweetness. Mild malty and rye bitterness that cuts through the sweetness. Nice and easy, and more depth to it then i thought at first.

Brown one, bottle of 33cl. TEH Christmas spiced honey beer. One of the greatest, nothing more to say. I personnally don’t like it much cause of her strong taste, but cold it must be a great surprise. Cheers !

500ml thumbler served from tap at Bruxelles Café - Lausanne. A: Pours a very dark amber color forming a good one to two fingers creamy beige head. Good retention, forming and leaving some thin lacings around S: Strong notes of dark fruits, spices and honey. Sweet grains. Bready Belgium style yeasts T: Sweet upfront. Sweet caramel, dark fruits (plums, mainly), spices (cinnamon?) and honey. Brown bread. Belgian yeasts. Slightly earthy. Light hoppy bitterness in the end. Strong Belgian character. A bit alcohol warming M: Medium and bit molasses body. Medium carbonation too. Malty bittersweet aftertaste O: Good drinkability. Good winter ale. Recommended [ BA Review @ 1/26/2013 ]

On tap @ Cafe Olivier in Utrecht. Presented in a coffee mug-like glass with handle, which was weird. Nice spicy flavour and aroma, touch of honey. One of the nicer boks I’ve had.

330ml bottle, pours deep deep red, almost black with a bubbly off white head. Aroma has cherries, figs, almond, honey, biscuit malt, liquorice, sweet to start but balances very well with moderate, short bitter finish with cherry aftertaste. Nice complex aroma, full body, oily feel, average carbonation.

330ml bottle from Vanuxeem. Pours coca cola black with bubbly head. Aroma is malt and toffee. Taste is coca cola, dark fruits, syrupy caramel and a faint hint of honey. Unexpectedly nice compared to the standard Barbar.

Bue en bouteille de 33cl. Bière très maltée, on ne sent pas le houblon. Arôme discret de miel, sucre candi et alcool trop présent. Bof.

Bottle 330ml. Pours dark, almost black opaque color, with a dark red hue. Head is foamy, beige tall and short lasting. Aroma of yes, dark malts, caramel, sweet. Mouth feel is oily to watery, very foamy, medium carbonated. Strong sharp tang, feelable alcohol. Full, rich body. Very pleasantly tangy due to alcohol, carbonation and roasted bitterness. Taste slightly bitter at first, then balanced by some sweetness, very good balance. Slightly heavy, much more so then the light version. Tastes of dark roasted malts are very front stage, slightly hiding the other flavors. Also some bitter-sweet burnt sugar, caramel, yeast, even more malt, dried fruits, bread, umami, very slight honey flavor. Alcohol taste is hidden, but it’s felt in mouth with nice tickle. Ends quite clear at first, leaves a rich, not sticky coating, with flavors of malt, yeast and bread, nicely umami. But then developes a sticky sweet after taste. Quite a heavy beer that will do well as a cold weather beer. More balanced, hearty and rich/meaty then the light version, but less sweat, also much less crisp and less "easy" to drink.

UPDATED: DEC 19, 2014 Drank with Marijn while watching soccer 10/8/2014. Nice bok-beer. Dark look, slighty thick beer. Nice. Taste is a bit neutral. However, hints of honey and other pleasant touches are apparent. Despite that, it’s not shocking. But still okay. Rated slightly higher after drinking again 18-12-2014.
