Bottle. Pours a dark brown color with thick beige head. Lots of sweet and dark fruit aromas along with caramel and honey. The flavor is a blend of Belgian yeast, candied sugars, raisins, honey and coriander. The mouthfeel is medium-bodied with strong carbonation and a dry, sweet finish. The alcohol is only vaguely present toward the end of each sip. It’s not nearly as rich or complex as some of the other Belgian Strong Ales or Winter Bocks out there but it’s a solid winter seasonal.
3.1 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20 esox (742) - Oulu, FINLAND - DEC 18, 2010
Draught. Dark brown beer, thin vanishing head. Aromas of fruity yeast, dried fruits, licorice. Some bread and grains. Tastes sweet, yeasty and a bit cloying. Sraightforwardly sweet. Finishes pleasantly fruity and spicy. Medium body, low carbonation. Controversial beer, some things are good and others bad.
4.3 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 19/20 freekyp (1294) - Thomasville, North Carolina, USA - DEC 12, 2010
Pours a dark mahogany with a smallish tan head. Carbonation is soft and Bok lends a thick oily mouthfeel. Nose shows figs, molasses, dark cherry, and raisin. Flavor is complex, starting lightly sweet, not unlike a graham cracker, and building in fruitiness but not tartness throughout. Ends with a long slightly bittersweet molasses fade.
3.8 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 15/20 czar (1205) - Québec, Quebec, CANADA - DEC 8, 2010
Dark-brown with a small head, no lacing. High carbonation - A bit disturbing. Caramel-toffee with dark fruits, good backbone hops. Nice beer.

2.8 AROMA 4/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20 Maris (543) - Canberra, AUSTRALIA - DEC 1, 2010
From a 330ml bottle on 30/11/2010. My bottle makes no reference to ’Winter’, and comes with a stylish Grolsch like bottle seal. Pours dark, almost like cola. Has a quite strange aroma of alcohol and methylated spirits. Has a fairly subdued flavour for a beer this big. There is a dollop of sweet honey, a little bit of dark fruit, and not much else other than a distinct dash of alcohol. Has a thinnish mouthfeel and moderate bitterness. Quite disappointing and uninspiring.
3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20 probstblueribbon (1967) - Nepean, Ontario, CANADA - NOV 25, 2010
330 ml bottle from SAQ, served at cellar temperature in a tulip glass.
App.: Very, very deep mahogany with a large, greyish-tan foam.
Aroma: Rich, crunchy, chewy malts, lots of raisins, prunes, figs, dark dried fruits, some herbal notes, sweet brown sugar bordering on molasses, there’s an ephemeral note that is a little...savoury?, tart fruit notes, a bit of alcohol, overall quite nice.
Palate: Medium body, full, plump effervescence.
Flav.: Much like the nose with plenty of rich, boozy fruits, sticky malts, some nuttiness, some bubblegum esters, minty herbals, sweet honey, a really nice winter warmer; somewhat sweet with a little bitterness and a lovely sweet, fruity honey and brown sugar finish.
Lovely stuff.

Bottle at the BevMo fest. Pours a hazy dark brown color with a one-finger tan head. The aroma is rather spicy with big caramel malts, anise, toast, and chocolate. The flavor is rather sweet but tasty. Caramel, chocolate, and quite a bit of licorice to it, along with some dark fruit notes and spices. Medium-full bodied with average carbonation and well-hidden booze. Pretty tasty winter bock beer overall.
3.6 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20 lusikka (2533) - Tampere, FINLAND - NOV 20, 2010
330 ml bottle @ Konttori.
Pours a dark reddish brown colour with a patchy white head. Aroma of bread, grass, toasted malts and syrup. Flavour of toasted malts, raisins, syrup and loads of sweetness but not too much. Quite balanced. Medium/full bodied with a thick mouthfeel. Not bad and very drinkable.
