This was the latter beer to celebrate the start of my annual leave relaxing on the sofa with my new copy of the Good Beer Guide Belgium. Relaxation of this nature however deserved a better beer. The final Barbar for me, and really can’t see what all the fuss is about. The pour promised much with an ebony pour and a thickset head that looked too good to be true. There were certainly deep and dark flavours in this beer, and it was better than the honey blonde, but it just lacked authenticity - being largely synthetic in nature. I could have made it a 7 but felt let down by lefebvre on the brand. Plenty dark beers around with plenty more bite

The gas in this one feels like the gas of soft drinks. Big bubbles. The honey really comes through giving this a nice sweetness. The best honey beer I have experienced, often the honey is just too much, but not here...

For the fan of belgian ale ... don’t hesitate.... for the others, it won’t interess you as it is a very regular ale

Dark brown with a fluffy short-term head. Honeyish but not over sweet. Spicy and smooth in the mouth. Nicely balanced beer rather than an attack on your buds.

Opaque brown with a fine, off-white, quickly dissipating head. Aromas of cherry, caramel, dry figs and alcohol. Sweet malt and alcohol give way to flavours of ripe tree fruit with floral undertones. Dry in the finish with warming alcohol to seal the deal.

The taste and aroma is complex, and the aftertaste is slightly sour. To me this is a wonderful beer.

Good solid beer with a tone of honey, very noticable. Decent head retention, thick mouthfeel. Won’t have again only due to limited availability, but I’d love to have after a hearty meal as a night cap.

Smoothish, velvety beer with an appealing look and rich fruitcake flavour. This would be a good evening favourite, if it wasn’t for it’s lack of complexity. Pretty good apart from that.
