Pours a hazy orange tinted brown color with a dense looking moderate sized tan head. Decent head retention and lacing. Aroma of dark malts, sweet cherries, honey and spice. Taste is sweet dark malts, tart cherries, dark fruits, brown sugar. Tart throughout. Medium bodied. Tasty beer.

Bottle from Bruisin’ Ales. Pours. Dark brown with a thin khaki head. A bit of caramel on the nose. Tastes of honey on the tongue. Finishes clean. Hides its alcohol well. Quaffable.

Whole Foods, Bowery 33cl ($4): Pours dark brown with a smallish head. Aroma is loads of dark fruit and liqueur. Taste is very, very sweet. Perhaps too sweet. I guess the honey is making its mark. This tastes like a thick honey pastry. I think I have all the same problems with this as with the Barbar blonde.

Warm mouthfeel, but not from alcohol. Sweet, spicy, honey. Long herbal aftertaste slowly changing into bitterness. Sticky mouthfeel.

Pours a deep ruby into the glass, with no real retentive head nor lacing of which to speak. The nose is of sour yeasty dough and under-ripened citrus. Flavors have malt, lots of yeasty sours, a ton of sour fruit and light flowery greens, with a crisp sour finish. Bitters balance out the brew relatively well, but the overactive carbonation and seltzery mouthfeel leave this medium-bodied offering a bit out-of-kilter.
