Nice foam, dark colour. Honey and burnt malts. Sweet-ish taste. Reminds me of salted caramel. Good.

Beer of the Month Club item served in pint glass. Dark brown, nearly opaque. Head takes up the entire top half of the glass, but quickly recedes to a nice brown 1 inch head. I pick up sweet aromas of dark fruits -- dates, plums and cherries. More dark fruits and cherry flavor, but not as sweet as the smell would indicate. Lots of spiciness and a bit of alcohol in the finish. Well carbonated, creamy mouthfeel. BOMC suggest pairing this with smoky barbecue type foods, and I have to agree. The sweet aroma is paired down a bit in the taste, making it easy to drink by itself or to complement a fine meal.

(bottle - 330 ml) Dark brown pour with a thick and lasting tan head. Aroma is sweet and spicy with some light vegetable hints. Big malts and spice at the beginning of the flavor with a lot of dark fruit notes mixing with the malt. Definitely taste some plums and raisins. Chewy and thick with a very nice alcohol burn.

I taste mostly red fruit with that slight hint of Barbar honey. Tastes like a real bok. Nice

11.2 ounce bottle from Holiday Wine Cellar ($3.29). Pours a lovely reddish brown with big fluffy beige head with good retention. Aroma of very sweet malts, yeast, candied fruit, and honey. Flavor also of sweet malts, dark fruit tones, and light spice (I get the coriander but not so much the orange peel). Good carbonation and the alcohol is well concealed. A little too sweet, but still pretty good. (346, 246)
