On tap. Pours a deep brown, slightly reddish with a small off white head that disappeared. Aroma is nutty, molasses, some dark fruits but mostly just sweet and a bit one dimensional for me. Flavor I picked up some gumminess, and a decent amount of toffee, molasses, just a little bit of sweet. Again a bit cloying on the sweet side. A little bit of fig and candi sugar. Medium body and a soft carbonation.

bottled. Lively mouth-feel of brown ale w/ slight silver head. Smells of yeast, spice, & malty alcohol. Taste is sweet malts laced w/ lots of alcohol. A sweet bread Belgian. Hints of orange citrus, coriander, and other spices. Gets extra points for being this dark, having these flavors, and not being too sweet w/ candi sugars. A very good Belgian. Int. Tap at Max’s Belgian Fest 2010. Pours a slight hazy deep woody brown- near black with a fizzy head- fades to nothing. Aroma is very fruity- grape soda esters, sugary sweet, brown sugar, candy syrup , light toasted malts, and nuts. Flavor is slick, veyr sweet, more soda- cola earthiness and grape soda fruity sweet esters, a bit of earth molasses- and cough syrup- very cloying- not good.

Poured brown with a touch of red with a slight tan head that left a touch of lace. Scents of peppermint, cinnamon, all spice, and malt accent the nose. Exactly what you would expect from a winter beer. This is a medium to heavy bodied ale that delivers on mouth with plenty of holiday cheer.

Very darkbrown beer. White irregular head that disappears quite quickly. Subtle nose of roasted malts, a little sweetness and cloves. The same we get in the taste, sweet and roast. Not too sweet though. Enough hops also to counter the sugars. A lot of carbon, which also helps to keep the beer from being to sticky in the mouth. Slightly sweet bitter aftertaste with a clear hint of honey.

Draft… Pours very dark but a clear crimson hue beckons when held up to bright light. No head. The nose consists of a virtual plethora of dark fruits – fig, date, raisin, etc. Full-bodied with a buttery mouthfeel and tingly carbonation. Nicely balanced. Moderately roasty, with prune and molasses essences. Semi-sweet, dark fruit finish.

Tap. Moderate cookie for the malt, light flowers for the hops, with notes of root beer, grape and sweet wine. Head is fizzy and quicly diminishes to nothing. Color is clear dark brown. Flavor starts moderately sweet and lightly acidic, then finishes lightly sweet and slightly bitter. Palate is medium, watery with a soft carbonation and a dry finish. A sweet beer with a lot of candy-like attributes and an unexpected dryness.

Bottle: Rusty brown amber chestnut color with a tan film of large bubbly head that retains well. Rich aroma of raisins and toffee, molasses and toasted Belgian dark malts. Effervescent and fluffy body. Softly sweet dark fruits in the flavor. Notes of plummy notes, fig, molasses with a toasted coriander presence, though very subtle. There’s also a hint of orangey citrus as it warms. The finish is fairly dry considering it’s rich fore. Toasted dark Belgian malts linger on the palate. Well crafted.
