Ungstrup (11031), Frederiksberg, Denmark May 7, 2003 A dark brown almost black beer with a fine light brown head. The aroma is very sweet and complex with notes of plum and dates. A mellow very complex flavor hits You then it turns sweet then alcoholic combined with pricklyness with notes of raisins and hints of smoke - a fantastic soft complex and filling beer - great complexity. Try it - if You can find it. omhper (10393), Stockholm, Sweden Feb 25, 2002 Dark brown. Sweetish with aroma of pine needles and some bitterness.
Papsoe (9980), Frederiksberg, Denmark Jul 23, 2005 (Bottle 33 cl) Very dark golden, slightly hazy with a fine, creamy head. Lovely spicy nose. Sweetish, perhaps a bit sticky, presumably with added honey like in the original "Barbar". A pronounced bitterness manages to contain and balance the sweetness. Close enough to a German Bock, although this is top-fermented. 030200 Oakes (6819), Miami Beach, Florida, USA Dec 19, 2002 Dark brown; head like a chocolate malted – foams up quickly then comes down. Combo of sweet honey, slight tobacco, caramel and demerara. Starts very sweet – a kiss of cool honey but mostly toffeeish. Some light apple notes, no hops and the yeast in largely a non-factor. Straightforward, very sweet. If you can handle such sweetness, you’re on. joergen (6240), Frederiksberg, Denmark Oct 20, 2005 Bottled.
