4.6 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 18/20 caesar (3722) - Bunnik/Utrecht, NETHERLANDS - DEC 26, 2002
UPDATED: AUG 26, 2007 Rerate: After at least 2 more tries (i still got one aging right now), this bock has finally got it right! It’s not a beer to drink as a starter, but later in the evening the sweet caramelly malts and the complex fruity flavors come out the best. I can only say: Deliciousssss!
Original rating: Finally a good winter-brew that doesn’t taste to alcohol (a lot). I can’t add anything to the descriptions already given: coffee? chocolate? whatever...

4.5 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 19/20 jerohen (1776) - Bussum, NETHERLANDS - AUG 29, 2002
UPDATED: JAN 1, 2012 Bottled on numerous occasions. Very dark brown colored, big off-white head. Very complex malty nose, dark fruit, honey, some liquorice. Smooth malty flavor, lots of complexity again, predominantly sweet but with just enough bitterness to compensate. Almost velvety mouthfeel. Very, very good brew.
4.3 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 18/20 confusedboy0 (99) - BELGIUM - DEC 11, 2002
Very good beer!
In the beginning it tastes like a rochefort, but that changes quickly to have a great taste of its own. Surely one to drink!
4.3 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20 OlJuntan64 (1266) - Perth, AUSTRALIA - JUN 24, 2002
Very dark red-brown with gorgeous hot chocolate/cappucino head that lasted for ever - nice lace too. Deceptive aromas, obvious ones like hops, honey and light alcohol, and more subtle ones like chocolate, plum pudding, rum and port wine drift in and out with temperature changes. Definitely conjours up sitting around a log fire with snow falling outside while listening to a cheezey hammond organ recording of ’jingle bells’, Medium body, nicely balanced palate, enough bitter to balance the honey anf fruity sweet and slowly warming alcohol. Perhaps too nicely balanced, I could easily imaging over-quaffing on this stuff on a cold winters night. Lotsa intersting flavours, honey, caramel malt, allspice fruit cake, fainter chocolate and, yes I even got ompher’s pine needles. Not for everyone - everytime, but has to be one of the best unknown Belgians I’ve tried. Maybe I need to try some more Bocks to make a better assessment.
4.3 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 19/20 freekyp (1280) - Thomasville, North Carolina, USA - DEC 12, 2010
Pours a dark mahogany with a smallish tan head. Carbonation is soft and Bok lends a thick oily mouthfeel. Nose shows figs, molasses, dark cherry, and raisin. Flavor is complex, starting lightly sweet, not unlike a graham cracker, and building in fruitiness but not tartness throughout. Ends with a long slightly bittersweet molasses fade.
4.3 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 17/20 broncoman (8) - new monmouth, New Jersey, USA - MAR 17, 2008 does not count
dark beer, mild flavor, malty with light molasses flavor. some orange and coriander initially. the honey tones out the bitterness of the the bok. but clean and crisp all the way through. very good!
