In 1996, the brewery innovates and launches Barbăr, ale with honey.
Born of the ancestral know-how of a family brewery, Barbar beer will please you with its malt taste and subtle flavour of honey. It is brewed using water drawn from artesian wells on the site of the brewery, at Quenast, a small village to the south of Brussels. This area is well-known for the quality and the diversity of its beers.
Barbar beer is prepared from a secret and harmonious mixture of barley malts, hops and honey carefully selected by our Master Brewer. The traditional brewing method, associated with our unique strain of yeast, and the secondary fermentation in the bottle, gives Barbar the authentic flavour of a very special ale.

It has tarnished golden color with a cloudy complexion. On top I got a two finger tall, light fluffy head. This head slowly settles to a wispy thin layer with a clingy ring at the edge of the glass. This leaves some lace rings at the top of the glass and a few spots on the way down. I get a very inviting nose full of sweet malts spiced with coriander, citrus orange peel and spicy herbal/floral hops. It starts with a touch of spice and a touch of wheat malt. Bready malt and yeast notes move in with some honey like sweetness and a touch of bitter orange peel. This then leads into a mild herbal/spicy hop finish mixed with balanced malt sweetness. On the palate it has a medium to full smooth mouth feel with soft carbonation.

The strong scent of honey (which I didn’t liked much) and weak color made me expect to a pure honey taste. Instead I got strong malty taste... Which I prefer

330ml bottle many times along the years.
I wonder how i had not rated his one yet.
POurs hazy golden with niec roty white head. Nose is sweet and honey, yeasty. Taste follows the nose, maybe a bit palate saturating for me.

Bottle from The Post Office Vaults, Birmingham. Smell of honey and malt. Taste is pretty sweet, some fruit coming through. It’s not too tasty after the first sip. It’s ok, but maybe a novelty?

Bottle, 330 ml. Pours relatively clear amber with lots of soapy white head. Lots of sweet malts and cereal notes on the nose, with some measure of coriander (reminiscent of Hoegaarden), some floral characteristics and of course some honey, though the latter isn’t as prominent as expect. Honey however becomes by far the dominant note in the taste, backed up by bready, strongly yeasty undertones and a spicy edge. No detectable alcoholic taste but a nice warmth regardless. Little bit watery initially but a rather dry finish with cereal in the aftertaste. Easygoing on the palate with not nearly as much carbonation as expected from the head, a smooth texture and decent medium body complimenting this. Overall a bit one dimensional and will perhaps be too sweet for some, but I like it regardless.

Hazyish liquid with minimal head. Medium body, light carbonation. Bitterish aftertaste. Nice scent, medium sweetness, taste of honey, spices.
