In 1996, the brewery innovates and launches Barbăr, ale with honey.
Born of the ancestral know-how of a family brewery, Barbar beer will please you with its malt taste and subtle flavour of honey. It is brewed using water drawn from artesian wells on the site of the brewery, at Quenast, a small village to the south of Brussels. This area is well-known for the quality and the diversity of its beers.
Barbar beer is prepared from a secret and harmonious mixture of barley malts, hops and honey carefully selected by our Master Brewer. The traditional brewing method, associated with our unique strain of yeast, and the secondary fermentation in the bottle, gives Barbar the authentic flavour of a very special ale.

Bottle @ The Sherlock Pub, Reims. Pours slightly hazy amber with airy off-white head. Clear aroma of malt, caramel, and yeast, with touches of fruit. Sweet flavour of caramel malt and fruit, complemented by bitter, hoppy notes towards the finish. these, however, cannot offset the overwhelming sweetness of the entire tasting experience. Estery and slightly bitter aftertaste, quickly giving way to caramellish notes. High carbonation. Rather boozy. Okay but more of a beverage for the teddy bear than for me.

Sample at the Hanshin Seed event. This honey beer has an impressively fruity nose - A+ peaches all the way. Pale light honey gold, crystal clear. Medium to light bodied with a zesty sharp carbonation. Sweet honey & fruits partying in my mouth. Delicious but I suspect cloying in large amounts. A pleasant surprise.

Világos színű főzet, mely igencsak élénk és fűszeres aromájú, a leginkább hangsúlyosan a korianderes íz emelkedik ki, mindemellett természetesen egy könnyed édességet is magában hordoz. Összetett ízvilággal rendelkező sör, különösen hőfokának emelkedésével fedi fel nagyszerű karakterét.

330 ml bottle pours a clear golden color with a 2 finger white head with good retention that leaves some nice lacing on the glass. Aroma is light fruits and grains with a hint of bready yeast. Taste is light fruit and grainy malt sweetness with a grassy and herbal hop bitterness. Medium bodied with good carbonation. Nothing special here and not recommended.

Aroma: bread and caramel malts, honey, molasses. Appearance: dark clear gold, big frothy white head. Taste: light to medium sweet. Palate: sweets remain quite blunt, little complexity, sugars, molasses, average-long finish, remains sweet. Overall: decent Belgian Strong Ale, nice sweetness. Bottle from Beer of Belgium, Ypres.

Bottle, poured in a Snifter glass. Pours a dark golden Pilsener color. Foad fades but sticks to the glass nicely. Aroma is normal Pilsner, grains, light on hops, some grass. A distant hint of unfiltered honey, some raisins. First sip is quite doughy and bread-like. Although I would not term this "honey", there certainly is a nice and mellow sweetness to the subsequent tastes. Light bitterness and sourness. This would be a perfect choice if you’re in the mood for a more robust Pilsener on a nice summer’s evening.
