In 1996, the brewery innovates and launches Barbăr, ale with honey.
Born of the ancestral know-how of a family brewery, Barbar beer will please you with its malt taste and subtle flavour of honey. It is brewed using water drawn from artesian wells on the site of the brewery, at Quenast, a small village to the south of Brussels. This area is well-known for the quality and the diversity of its beers.
Barbar beer is prepared from a secret and harmonious mixture of barley malts, hops and honey carefully selected by our Master Brewer. The traditional brewing method, associated with our unique strain of yeast, and the secondary fermentation in the bottle, gives Barbar the authentic flavour of a very special ale.

Nose of honey, a cloudy golden colour with a long lasting creamy head. Quite a sweet beer with the honey coming through strongly and light malt undertones. Very enjoyable.

Aroma unauffällig, geschmacklich ebenso. Relativ bitter, wenig süß! Wo ist denn der Honig? Habe es mir deutlich besser vorgestellt... ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Bottle from Masuyo. Pours a clear gold with a white head that dissipates fairly quickly. Honey, biscuit with some light fruity esters. Almost like a chimay in a way. Sweet on the palate with the honey showing nicely. Some light grass character as well. Sweet finish with some light dryness. A classic Belgian beer.

Tap at RJ. Clear golden to amber colour. Stable white head. Aroma honeyish, caramel, soft German hoppiness. Seems somewhat sharp. Taste reveals assertive hopping with German noble hops, which balances the honeyish caramelly sweetness, seemingly slightly underattenuated. Overall the beer maintains balance, alcohol does not become bothersome. Moderate to full body, moderately drinkable. Low to moderate carbonation. Very good one.

SWING-TOP 33 CL. Clear dark amber, tan head. Light but pleasant Belgian Strong Aroma - malts, sesame toffee, a touch of fruit (apricot) and alcohol. Tastes unbalanced and sweet with naughty boiled vegetable touch, a hint of alcohol. Mediocre.

The beer comes bright gold with a short-lasting head. You can taste the honey but its not too dominant. Well balanced.
