In 1996, the brewery innovates and launches Barbăr, ale with honey.
Born of the ancestral know-how of a family brewery, Barbar beer will please you with its malt taste and subtle flavour of honey. It is brewed using water drawn from artesian wells on the site of the brewery, at Quenast, a small village to the south of Brussels. This area is well-known for the quality and the diversity of its beers.
Barbar beer is prepared from a secret and harmonious mixture of barley malts, hops and honey carefully selected by our Master Brewer. The traditional brewing method, associated with our unique strain of yeast, and the secondary fermentation in the bottle, gives Barbar the authentic flavour of a very special ale.

Pas du tout amateur de miel, l’arričre goűt est ici léger mais se fait gęnant sur la longueur. Se boit quand męme.

Deep blond color, bottle of 33cl. One of the nicest honey and spiced beer. Strong aroma (as her appearance), nice palate with the subtile spiced taste. In fact, you must try that beer ! Cheers !

Pours a hazy gold with one finger of loose white head diminishing rapidly to a thin skim, spotty lacing. Nose is sweet honey and malt, orange peel, coriander, herbal and floral hops. Taste is medium sweet and moderate bitter with building spice. Medium body, prickly sustained carbonation, with an off-dry spicy, bitter finish. I opened this last Lefebvre with a mixture of relief and dread - “Last one, how bad can it be?" But the answer is, not bad at all. I’m not a huge fan of honey in beer, but the sweetness isn’t overwhelming - the bitter orange and coriander work well with the hops to keep the sweetness balanced. The hint of peppery spice (and was there just a little bubblegum in the nose at first?) builds through the glass and also keeps the honey from becoming sickly. Not worth buying the 8-pack for, but worth picking up if you see it on its own.

33cl bottle served in a Gouden Carolus glass. Pours a dark blonde colour with a nice white head which last well. Aroma is sweetness. Taste is butterscotch which belies it (somewhat) modest ABV of "only" 8% - it tastes much stronger. Nice mouthfeel. Overall a nice beer which I was not expecting to be so good.

Bottle, 0,33 l. Clear dark golden colour. Big white head with nice lacing. Medium carbonation. Sweet and yeasty aroma. Taste is medium sweet, just the right amount of honey. Some alcohol and bitterness in the aftertaste. Overall decent beer but a bit too sweet for my taste.

A gift from my dear friend Bartosz. Intensive aroma of honey and alcohol, a bit simillar to mead. Small head disappearing to thin layer. Cloudy golden colour. Intensive alcohol bitterness in taste with honey sweetness. Alcohol is too harsh but still it’s a very interesting brew.
