COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Bottled conditioned. Keg: Filtered.
In 1996, the brewery innovates and launches Barbăr, a lager with honey.
Born of the ancestral know-how of a family brewery, Barbar beer will please you with its malt taste and subtle flavour of honey. It is brewed using water drawn from artesian wells on the site of the brewery, at Quenast, a small village to the south of Brussels. This area is well-known for the quality and the diversity of its beers.
Barbar beer is prepared from a secret and harmonious mixture of barley malts, hops and honey carefully selected by our Master Brewer. The traditional brewing method, associated with our unique strain of yeast, and the secondary fermentation in the bottle, gives Barbar the authentic flavour of a very special ale.

33cl bottle @ home. Clear golden color, average white head. Aroma honey, caramel, dark fruit, grass, herbs. Taste medium sweetness, very lightly bitter, lightly sour, bit salty. Light body, sticky texture, lively carbon, average sweetish finish. Interesting, but not my style, almost no bitterness and too sweet.

Pours clear golden with a few hazy spots; it has a white head which sustains itself well and leaves decent lacing behind. The honey is very present in the nose, while the yeast adds a little bit of funk and the malts make a bready contribution. Although the honey is pretty clear in the nose, the sweetness is very contained and subtle on the palate in the beginning, but grows more obvious as it goes through the mid-palate, while the breadiness and spiciness are pleasant complements. The finish accentuates the honey with the heat from the alcohol, but doesn’t come off as very sweet. The high carbonation adds a zing to the generally malty and nutty character overall. Homely but very nice.

(Keg at Pikkulintu, 20131226) The beer poured deep golden and clear. Its head was medium sized and white. Aroma had honey, malts, paper and sweetness. Palate was medium bodied with medium carbonation. Flavours were malts, honey, paper, sweetness and bitterness. Aftertaste was sweet and bitter. A way too sweet brew. I haven’t had this beer at least in 6 years and now I remember why.

Bottle. Clear golden with nice white head. Sweet aroma of malt, honey, berries. Taste is similar; malty, loads of honey with bit alcoholic finish. Carbonation could be lower if you ask me. Overall - nice, enjoyable beer.

Golden, medium bubbly white head. Aroma is buttery, honey, fruit, toasty malt, yeast. Taste is medium sweet. Some boozy-spicy notes in the semi-dry finish. Medium body, prickly carbonation, texture on the oily side. Not bad, but simplistic.
