2.8 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20 bedainedebiere (493) - Terrebonne, - MAY 14, 2009
2 versions are available in Quebec’s imaginary country.
PART 1: The Lefebvre version. Bought with 7 other Lefebvre beers in a package sold 26,95$ at SAQ. 33cl bottle. Sweet and spicy aroma, a lot of spices in the taste, honey sweetness comes in second, still perceptible in the after-taste. Reminded me of Unibroue 2004, only in a much crappy version, with a lot more damn coriander. The rating is for this original version. PART 2: The RJ version, which I had immediately after the previous one. 3,79$ for a 660ml bottle. Color is less translucid. Honestly, at the place I bought it, it might be a few years old... Aroma is less sweet, more spicy (damn it), getting almost displeasing. Wo! It is a very different taste, dryer, hoppier, fruitier and spicier than the european imported version. Everything seems more intense, here, except for the sweetness, which is a good thing. In fact, there is here only notes of honey, not an aggressive domination. More complex than the other, I definitely believe it was aged (probably in a refrigerator...). Very tongue-tingling. I might re-rate with a recent brew but this is a surprise after the deception of the first one. 5-4-8-3-15
3.1 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20 mutz (121) - NETHERLANDS - MAY 4, 2012
Goudkleurig, aroma van inderdaad wat honing, en mout. Smaakt zoetig naar honing. Zoetbittere nasmaak. Medium body. Drinkt wel vlot weg maar heeft weinig diepgang.
3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20 vipinvelp (324) - Velp, NETHERLANDS - APR 26, 2012
Good color with strong white foam head. Although I usually don’t like these sweetened beers, this one is different. I realy like it, there is bitter beer taste and yet sweet honey. (Utrecht 201203)
3.4 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20 Acid303 (78) - Barcelona, SPAIN - APR 25, 2012
Dark golden colour and medium white head, nice appearence. Aroma is quite strange, taste is definetely a mix of malts, honey, alcohol and a hint of hops. Medium body and good carbonation.
3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20 GSAP (84) - NETHERLANDS - APR 21, 2012
De honing komt door in aroma, zoetig fruit, wat helemaal in de smaak wordt voortgezet, met wat pit als gember, vanille en koriander. Drinkt heerlijk.
3.2 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20 drowland (3881) - Tallahassee, Florida, USA - APR 19, 2012
4/19/12. 12oz bottle clearly labeled as "ale," but this matches the name and brewery. Slightly hazy golden pour with a small frothy white head. Big orange aroma with plenty of yeast character. Flavor parallels that but with a touch of tartness as well. Not terrible.
2.7 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 11/20 Nordcore (633) - Lyngen alps, NORWAY - APR 18, 2012
Bottle 33 cl. Amber, clear with a large white foamy head. Armoa of malt, honney, spices and alc. Sweet taste with a alc - honney end. I did not like the aftertaste on this one....
3.1 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20 BlackHaddock (1709) - Shropshire, ENGLAND - APR 18, 2012
Aug 2010: Flip-top brown bottle (33cl) poured into my new ’Abbot Ale’ glass tankard.
Suprised to see I hadn’t reviewed this beer before, glad I checked before popping it open!
The body is a good looking golden colour and the pure white head on top gives it an overal high score for looks, pity the whole head couldn’t hang around longer though, it thinned quickly, but was still a full covering at the end.
The nose and taste is a subtle honey one, it isn’t in your face, yet you know it’s there from the off.
I like this beer, but only one at a time, I am sure the sweetness that it hides so well would eventually come to the fore and ruin the flavours for me.
3.5 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 16/20 Fred82 (1824) - Montreal, Quebec, CANADA - APR 17, 2012
330ml from SAQ.
Appearance : Clear pale amber small creamy white head. Lots of lacing.
Aroma : Big honey-ed malt with big spices. Belgian yeast. Quite rich.
Taste : Malty and spicy. Lots of honey. Herbal hops. Moderate bitterness all along. Finish spicy and malty with honey and light alcohol.
Palate : Carbonation is a bit aggressive. Nicely generous but a bit too fizzy.
Overall : Not bad. Nice look. Nice malt. Too spicy for my taste. Nice malty finish. Carbonation is also a bit too agressive... gets much better after some time in the glass. All in all a decent Belgian Strong Ale but nothing special.
3 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20 sseb69 (887) - Gatineau, Quebec, CANADA - APR 12, 2012
Bouteille 660 ml. 7.8%. Brassée sous licence par Les Brasseurs R.J. Inc. Couleur jaune un peu voilée, mousse blanche. Arôme de levure et malt. En bouche, agrumes, levures, un peu d’herbes et miel en finale. Bonne.
2.5 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 10/20 mansquito (1809) - washington, Washington DC, USA - APR 3, 2012
DeVinos, DC 330ml ($4): Pours a light amber with a white head. Aroma is strange and not necessarily in a good way. It is kind of too strong. Smells like cheap liquor that homeless men who like too much sugar drink. Kind of an overload of them fruity jawns. Taste is a bit better. It is kind of a weird combination of astringent hops and way too much honey. So the beer is all sticky and sweet. Yet, the body is not all that thick. This beer is very much not my thing.
