In the bottle from the ridiculous wooden tool box packaging. This is a lousy beer. Steam beers are easy to make and there is no excuse to produce a weak one. Pours dark amber with an off-white head. The aroma and the flavor is way too much corn. This just does not resemble a steam beer. eeck! I know that "historically" poor people made beer using whatever was available, but that doesn’t mean it tasted good.

Pours an average amber with an aroma of chocolate banana and light hay. Flavor is plastic sweet bread and lightly malted cheese. Tingly mouthfeel. Bleh.

Sweet, caramel, graham cracker and wet wood aroma. Orangey-gold, webby head. Bad label, and is there a reason that they can’t afford to put anything on these bottles but brass-colored caps -- that’s just bad marketing. Tangy, malt cracker/biscuit flavor, very metallic -- this is my fifth beer from this brewery tonight [and my last, Mom - :) ] and the thing that they all had in common was a metallic, oversparged bitterness that was trying to substitute for complexity. Not very sweet. Light cereal. Bitterness overstays its welcome. Thanks to PorterPounder for splitting his toolbox with me. Marzenish.

12oz from Daknole, thanks! Pours orange with a bright white head. Nose is basically dead. Taste has some fruity notes, overall, a eh.

Ah, so this is a California Common. I had no idea what a "Gold Rush Style" would be. I like the label’s "Iceless Fermentation" banner. I don’t know that much about brewing, much less lagers, and I know that the claim to fame of the style is the warmer temperature brewing of a lager, but since when did lagers ever have to have ice? The beer is pretty plain on the whole, but it does have just a ton of malt character, with a strong caramel flavor and some fruit notes. Slightly hoppy but a surprisingly thin body with a touch of grass and metal in the finish. Vibrant copper color. Thanks to Markus for passing this along.

Thirst-quenching malt flavor that’s very easy to drink. Some bready/nuttiness. Light, yet malty & hoppy, and seemingly well-balanced. Dry, clean finish. Good session beer.

hotstuff (3340) - Indiana, USA - JAN 26, 2004
Bottle. Nothing very special about this one. It poured a small sized ivory head that was creamy and smooth with fine-medium sized bubbles. The body was transparent and carbonated with an orange hue. The nose was malty, sweet, caramel, some citrus notes and hops. The flavor was sweet with some hops. The mouthfeel was smooth and the texture was thin. This beer had fair lacing.

from the stupid gift pack that looks like an old timey tool box on 3/3/10. decent looking amber colored pour with an almond tinted off white head. smells like butterscotch, spice and malt sweetness. similar lack of flavor...butterscotch, white chocolate, grain, odd fruitiness, a touch sour and herbaceous. it is fairly sweet throughout with a spicy harsh finish. it is medium bodied with a rough mouth feel. 3/3/4/2/9/2.1

Pours a nice medium amber color. Aromas of sweet malts, and the faintest hint of hops. Flavors of caramel sweetness, a touch of fruit, and almost no hop.

Bottle shared by Larry. Aroma is vegetal, carrot. The palate is steamy, with some squash notes. Mild, veggies, potatoes. Tough carbonation. I thought this was alright.
