This Golden Sorghum Lager will appeal to beer drinkers who prefer the lighter taste of lagers produced by the major brewers, such as Anheuser-Busch, Coors, Miller, and Heineken. This ale has a light crisp taste to meet the thirst quenching requirements of the lager style while still having enough body to interest the ale drinker during the spring and summer seasons. This beer has low bitterness and a subtle but pleasant hop aroma that will gently caress the senses.

Note: contract brewed for Bard’s Tale Beer (<A HREF=http://www.bardsbeer.com/ TARGET=blank>http://www.bardsbeer.com/).

12oz bottle. Bottled 6/19/2013. Clear golden color, with a minimal white head. Apricot, peach flavor up front, with an olive aftertaste. Seeing as how the description compared this to macro-lagers, this is surprising. Lighter body. Sharper, stronger carbonation, kind of biting. Moderate bitter taste, lightly tart. Not very enjoyable nor easy-drinking. On the upside, the more I drink of it, the less offensive it becomes, the more I get used to the whole thing. There is a general cidery quality to the texture, though, not as full bodied as most beers.

Bought at Arlens Market.; Had as Bards Sorghum Beer .. . thanks for the sixer Rica, you guys can keep the other five .. . Little aroma of old wet bread and public bowling ball finger holes .. . terrible mouth, gritty and old, with a underlining sourness .. . i could choke this down if i had that bread disease but this was pretty bad .. . doesn’t go well with chewy microwaved chex mix .. . and your sister is still a ghetto chickenhead!

Bottle. Golden color with a very weak head. The sorghum is so overpowering, and tatses too much like glue. It’s sweet and smooth. Not what I like in a beer, the sorghum is interesting, and the title is cool that’s about it.

(Rating #641)

Bottle sample at a tasting at avrashi’s place. Thanks kerenmk. As "Bard’s The Original Sorghum Malt Beer". Hazy golden with no head. Weird cereals aroma. Very unpleasant weird cereals flavor with some sweetness and a sour edge. Light-bodied. Yuck.

Shit i keep buying bottles of this sorghum stuff thinking its a real beer. Pours a scotch amber body with a with head. Chewy tawny caramel aroma, and a hint of alcohol aroma not bad!!! Dull metallic, rice wine, and cardboard flavor dammit this one sucks, aroma could have fooled me.

Bottle: Yellow gold, light white head, light lacing. Nose of light dust and hops, some odd grainy notes. The flavor is ok, somewhat toasty and moldy, but distinctly not barley. The finish is spicy. Meh.

UPDATED: DEC 21, 2005 When I read of this beer a few months ago, I thought, "What a noble cause. Here’s someone trying to help out beer drinkers who develop an allergy to gluten." Then I bought a sixer of this overpriced brew at a Whole Foods. After reading the inanities on the package (see austinpowers’ review), I was sure that this was just a gimmick. On to the beer - - It pours a hazy straw color with (initially) a bubbly white head and (initially) lively carbonation. Both soon vanish. The aroma is wheaty and corny and oily with little of any sign of the advertised "pleasant hop aroma." This flat drink has an acrid, tinny flavor with a little grainy sweetness and a whisper of light hopping. The aftertaste was metallic and sugary and I had to brush my teeth before having another beer. I would NOT let this warm up. Now I’m not sure if this is a gimmick or a sorry joke.

Savannah, Ga. - Habersham Beverage Warehouse - 12 oz bottle. Medium copper pour, barely there tight white head. Aroma of butterscotch. Flavor has some of the same butterscotch notes with some ripening vegetable funkiness and a touch of molasses. Reminds me somewhat of malta. Somewhat sticky, but lifeless mouthfeel. Better than most sorghum beers - but glad I do not have to resort to these for medicinal reasons.

This lager pours a yellow gold color from a 12oz bottle. Small sized white foamy head. Aroma is grain and cereal, a touch sour/lactic but not in a bad way. A medium to light bodied Pale Lager. Malts are grainy and cereal. Hops are mild and kind of spicy. Flat carbonation. Very Budwesier like yet it has a slight sour/lactic flavor to it. I am assuming that is from the sorgum than a brewing fault. It doesn’t have the crisp rice flavor that Bud has so that one point in its favor. But its still a fairly generic tasting Pale Lager. Mouthfeel is full. Finish is crisp and clean. Aftertate is slightly bitter.
