COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
This Golden Sorghum Lager will appeal to beer drinkers who prefer the lighter taste of lagers produced by the major brewers, such as Anheuser-Busch, Coors, Miller, and Heineken. This ale has a light crisp taste to meet the thirst quenching requirements of the lager style while still having enough body to interest the ale drinker during the spring and summer seasons. This beer has low bitterness and a subtle but pleasant hop aroma that will gently caress the senses.

Ernest (6542) - Boulder, Colorado, USA - MAR 30, 2005
UPDATED: OCT 27, 2007 Bottle. Head is initially small, fizzy, off-white, fully diminishing. Body is medium amber. Aroma is lightly malty (cereal, caramel, wort), with light notes of DMS and plastic. Flavor is moderately sweet, lightly bitter. Finish is lightly sweet, lightly to moderately bitter. Medium body, watery/syrupy texture, lively carbonation. Very raw and crude. Maybe a touch better then the state it was in at GABF 2004, but still...damn. Hard to stomach. One word: Redbridge.

12-oz. Pours a brilliant crystal clear coppery medium amber with verrrry little grayish head. Nasty cherry nose, smells synthetic. Mostly butterscotch on the nose, but the artificial fruit is hard to forget once you notice it. Medium body, odd for a lager, and somewhat fizzy. More weird phony butterscotch and cherry on the mid-palate. If you’re allergic to barley malt, and this is your only other beer option, for god’s sake, start learning about scotch or red wine.

Bottle courtesy of sloth. Pours gold with a thin white head. Smells of sweet caramel, rice, cookie dough. Tastes watery with some weird underlying sweetness. Saccharine like finish.

(Rating #641)

Bottle: Vibrant golden, almost fiery orange, extremely translucent, large white dishwater head, sparce lacing.   Head dies quickly... seems still.   Berry like nose, very fruity to start, much like taffy.   Pale malt, little to no hop, slight sweetness.   Body and mouthfeel are barely moderate.   Very soft artificial Boo Berry or Franken Berry flavor on the finish, slight cereal.   Not bad, but not that interesting either.

bottle, golden yellow colored pour , this is really awful to start with a cloying metallic finish

PorterPounder (5970) - Tallahassee, Florida, USA - MAR 9, 2009
Savannah, Ga. - Habersham Beverage Warehouse - 12 oz bottle. Medium copper pour, barely there tight white head. Aroma of butterscotch. Flavor has some of the same butterscotch notes with some ripening vegetable funkiness and a touch of molasses. Reminds me somewhat of malta. Somewhat sticky, but lifeless mouthfeel. Better than most sorghum beers - but glad I do not have to resort to these for medicinal reasons.

12 oz bottle split with Pwn3d. Body is golden brown. Aroma is caramel and malt. The taste is malt, watered down soda taste - not good.

Sledutah (5661) - Utah, USA - JUL 20, 2011
12oz bottle from the state store
I wasn’t expecting much and I wasn’t disappointed!
The good: Pours clear golden with a medium sized white head and good lacing
The medium: Aroma is bready with spices
The bad: Taste is very bisquity with some sourness
Footbalmed the rest of the glass. For some reason I also bought another sorghum beer at the same time. I’m looking forward (not) to trying it.

UPDATED: DEC 21, 2005 When I read of this beer a few months ago, I thought, "What a noble cause. Here’s someone trying to help out beer drinkers who develop an allergy to gluten." Then I bought a sixer of this overpriced brew at a Whole Foods. After reading the inanities on the package (see austinpowers’ review), I was sure that this was just a gimmick. On to the beer - - It pours a hazy straw color with (initially) a bubbly white head and (initially) lively carbonation. Both soon vanish. The aroma is wheaty and corny and oily with little of any sign of the advertised "pleasant hop aroma." This flat drink has an acrid, tinny flavor with a little grainy sweetness and a whisper of light hopping. The aftertaste was metallic and sugary and I had to brush my teeth before having another beer. I would NOT let this warm up. Now I’m not sure if this is a gimmick or a sorry joke.
