3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20 b3shine (2453) - Cincinnati, Ohio, USA - MAY 28, 2013
Growler to snifter (thanks jmborggren). Looks good; a fairly transparent orange with white lacing. Smells solid; Cascade hops with a nicely balanced semi-sweet backbone. Tastes like it smells with a solid mouthfeel. Extremely drinkable.

Tap flight at the brewery. One of the first pours off the new keg. This replaced the American Wheat keg that kicked and I don’t think I saw a line cleaning solution precede this pour. I did see a cloudy algae brew emerge on the first pour which appears to have been yeast. My pour is a cloudy goldenrod with no head. Looks like a Hefeweizen. No much aroma, just faint Cascade. Taste is thin and kind of weak. Definitely was expecting more. Is this a sanitizer/APA solution I have here? Maybe, but I’ll rate it as served to me. Lemon lime spritz in the mouth with biscuit. For as bright and citrusy the taste is up front, there’s something that burns the back of my throat. Flavor is growing on me as this settles in the glass. Not to sound like the old guy on his front porch, but this beer makes me think that Cascades just aren’t what they used to be. No pine bite anymore and much more muted overall. Still pretty good but not nearly the same. Tons of sediment left in my glass. Looks and tastes like hops. If you get a cloudy pour of this, let it settle before drinking.

Tap: Golden hue with fading head and good lace. The aroma has a nice fruity and grassy ester along with biscuity and bready malts. Smells a tad astringent aka tea-baggy. The taste develops a nice flowery and fruity note, mild pale grains and a slight hint of crystal malt. Slight hop spice on the finish and some faint butterscotch as it warmed closer to room temperature. The mouth feel is lively and refreshing, a bit minerally on the finish. A solid enough brew but seems the missing that something extra.
