4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20 hopscotch (8217) - Vero Beach, Florida, USA - JAN 30, 2013Growler... This beer rocks!… Pours clear and nearly black with a miniscule, creamy, off-white head that’s gone in a flash. The aroma offers big-time mocha accentuated by toasted nuts and vanilla. Full-bodied and fatty with modest carbonation. The bittersweet flavor is of dark chocolate chips and fudge with a deeply-roasted black malt and espresso finish. Huge thanks to BBB63 for shipping this world class delight my way!

Tap flight at the brewery. Dense black pour, seemingly still in the glass. Mk chocolate head reduces to a ring. Semisweet chocolate and French roast coffee aroma. Taste is pretty nice. Sweet coffee, chocolate, char, and a combined bitterness from roast and hops. A touch light bodied for the style but not necessarily lacking. Thin but slippery on the tongue. Deceptively strong. Nice.

32 oz growler to oversized snifter (thanks jmborggren!). Looks good a mostly opaque dark cola/borderline black with off-white lacing. Smells good too; LOTS of chocolate with a bit of roast. Tastes like it smells. CHOCOLATE EVERYWHERE!!! Nice and smooth on the palate. Great stuff!

I believe this was called "mail order bride"? Dark pour with a this tan head. Tons of coffee on the nose with some citrus. Flavor follows suite. Well well done. Hoppy, resinous and roasty
3.8 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20 BBB63 (5411) - La Porte, Indiana, USA - AUG 4, 2012
Backlogged rating: Basically pitch black with a small creamy tan head and okay lace, some oily tears. The aroma has notes of earthy yeast, pipe tocbacco, leather, anise, burned toast, and even some rye twang. Light grapefruit and apple esters along with a dash of pepper and clove. The taste is right where you expect it, dark fruit, ashy, roasty and a touch nutty with some chocolate and coffee undertones. Fair amount of bitterness to balance the sweetness. Nicely earthy and despite the alcohol not overly boozy. The mouth feel is sharp and aggressive yet not too much so, seems to get thinner as I drank it... slight warming towards the end of the snifter. A darn solid Imperial Stout but I like the Poblano added version better.

Snifter on tap at Bare Hands. Pours a thick looking brown with a thin but dense tan head. Aromas of burnt malt, dark chocolate and some licorice. Flavor is thoroughly excellent. Dark chocolate, coffee, vanilla, a little dark fruit with a thick and creamy mouthfeel and a warm finish. Excellence in a glass.
4.7 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 19/20 MrBunn (2219) - Western, Pennsylvania, USA - JUN 13, 2012
Snifter on tap at Bare Hands. Pours a deep and thick looking brown with a thin but dense tan head. Aromas of burnt malt, dark chocolate and licorice. Flavor is simply amazing. One of the best new imperial stouts I have had in a long time. Dark chocolate, coffee, vanilla, a little dark fruit and so on with a perfectly thick and creamy mouthfeel and a warm finish. This is totally worth the trip to Granger.
