mreusch (713), Olathe, Kansas, USA Nov 2, 2009 750ml bottle, with thanks to Beastiefan2k for sharing. Pours dark brown with a frothy tan head. Aroma is heavy on the dark fruits, some toffee, and a little chocolate. Flavor is a bit thinner, also forward on the dark fruits, with dark berry and a little caramel. Eugene says this bottle has over a year on it, and that seems to come across on the palate and flavor. Thanks for sharing Eugene! corby112 (671), philadelphia, Pennsylvania, USA Nov 1, 2009 Pours a very dark brown, almost prune purplish black with a huge 3 finger frothy coffee colored head with excellent retention that slowly fades into a lasting cap that coats the glass with large chunks of soapy lacing.
Roasted malt aroma with hints of bitter dark chocolate malt, dark fruits, especially plum, dark cherry and fig as well as some spice.
Roasted malt flavor with a lot of bitter dark chocolate and dark fruit, especially plum, raisin, dark cherries, grape and fig. There is also a good bit of cocoa and coffee bean to balance things out. The sweetness of the estery fruit notes are balanced by the roasted notes and the subtle hops provide a slight dry finish. The alcohol is undetectable and the excellent balance make this beer extremely quaffable. Highly recommended!
skortila (2875), Bunnik, Netherlands Oct 22, 2009 Bottled. Aroma is slightly vinous, has roast, chocolate and dark fruits. Dark brown coloured beer with a short, beige head. The taste is sweet, slightly sour, has dark & dried fruits, some black currant. Medium bodied (so thin for an ASA). okay. caesar (3020), Bunnik/Utrecht, Netherlands Oct 16, 2009 Bottled. Dark color, short head. Aroma of some roasted malt, bit hop, some chocolat, slight hint of grapes. Bit fruity taste, soft malty body, hint of alcohol. Not as strong as american strong ales usually are, but more a thin italian version. Decent balance, but a bit thin compared to his harsh american brothers. zach8270 (2050), Henrietta, New York, USA Oct 1, 2009 (bottle - 375 ml) Dark brown in color with a tan head. The taste of pure chocolate, with burned malt, dark fruits like black cherries and prune. It’s a bit dry with some bitter and spices. The aftertaste is bitter, spicey and warm. vtafro (452), , New Jersey, USA Aug 9, 2009 Bottle thanks to Rciesla for the share. Brown pour with little head. Nice grape filled aroma. Flavor is awesome for 10%, dark fruits, malt, grape and citrus. The first thing i wrote down was ten percent and I forgot that by the end of the glass, that’s how smooth this beer was. Nice! Rich aroma. Dark coloured strong in alcohol and fruity with a little dryness and a hint of whisky in a crisp roast finish.
