Tap at Monks alehouse.. Pour a muddy brown with tan head that dissipates.. light lacing. Aroma is caramel, vanilla, oak, sour wine, cherries. Taste is complex.. heavy wood with a prune, fig taste upfront... slightly tart. Creamy caramel finish. Little carbonation. If this were livelier it would have been nicer. Too much happening here and flat on palate.

This was a draft pour at THE LOCAL BEER BAR in Eureka, CA. It came in the glass a viscous brown with a small tan head. The nose is ripe fruit with cherry and figs. Medium body and a mouth feel that has some bite. Flavor is very complex with a backbone of rich caramel malts and agin ripe fruit with the cherry and figs, but also prunes, vanilla, wood, and wine barrels. The finish is distinctly sour and a little whisky finally shows up. This is an interesting beer, but the flavors are kind of a mish-mash and nothing really seems to hang together.

Tap at The Birch Norfolk, VA. Listed as Barley BB Dexi "Z" 2009 Whiskey BA Italian Strong Ale. 10% abv listed. Pours with a weak head on clearish deep cola. Nose brings red wine, cedar, pepper, Brett perhaps, really nice. Taste is bland, tomato, paper, metallic. Ick. Lots of harsh acid. Quite soured actually. Lots of bitter licorice root and wood and forest floor bitterness. Just too much bile acid harshness. On the path to something great but not quite there.
