On tap at GABF. Pours with a clear yellow body and a white head. Aromas are strongly hoppy, dank, but quite pungent, onion and a bit of cat piss. Flavors are quite bitter, pungent, really strong ammonia/cat piss. Lively bubbles, dry. Just too pungent sadly, the hop presentation and malt bill were nice, but ammonia overpowered.

4.5 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 19/20 carboloader (615) - Houston, Texas, USA - MAY 1, 2010
Straight from Shawn the brewmaster in big unlabeled bottle. I had no idea what was in this one and opened it expecting that it might be Shredder’s Wheat. Nope. I was knocked over by a Christmas tree in a bottle! The nose is all pine tree, spruce, citrus, that smells so delicious I could have orgasmed from just the aroma alone. OMG, this one takes a Bear Republic Racer 5 and puts it in a headlock, farts on its head, and laughs at it with pure dominance. Simply the most amazing IPA/IIPA I have ever tasted in my life. It could be called Christmas tree IPA, or Douglas Fir Imperial Ale. I swear Shawn through an entire tree into this during the dry hopping. The alcohol will knock you over, but it’s still well masked in the hops and decent malt backbone. A hellaciously long, perfectly bitter finish that suggests over 100 IBUs in my opinion. If I could have one beer to drink often, and slowly, this would be it. I vow to return to that tiny home town as often as I can, just to get fresh samples of this. I will never forget the old Tank Slapper in the plain brown bottle. A genuine masterpiece.
3.8 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20 raphael (746) - Portland, Oregon, USA - APR 3, 2010
Big full ho aroma, a resiny citrus flower, honey in the distance. hazy bright amber (on tap at belmont sta) w/ barely a head. the flavor is harsher than the aroma, grapefruit rind and alcohol, nothing the tiniest sweet.

On tap at the 2009 NABA. A stand out beer for sure. No surprise that it won gold. Pours a golden color with a medium frothy white head. A huge aroma of citrus hops, grapefruit and pine. The flavor was excellent; bitter, lots of citrus, pine and caramel malts as well. Flavorful and strong but very quaffable like a good IIPA should be. I wish I had tried this a few more times.

3.8 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20 BlackDonald (1127) - Boise, Idaho, USA - JUL 27, 2008
Lovely simcoe nose, fruity and full of citrus and grapefruit notes. This is a big beer judging by the nose. Deep golden coloring, with a small fizzy head. Lovely fruits throughout with some soapy hops and a small banana esther in the finish. A solid IPA.
