At the brewpub in my home town. Wow, this is one picture perfect pint. Cascadian India Black Ale. Aroma is all hops and roast. I am a big fan of Stone’s SSR and this sucker has similar complexity, creamy mouthfeel, and smooth drinkability. Delicious! Nice job, Shawn!

GABF 2011 Media Luncheon. Deep nutty brown, near black, small tight beige head, with good lace. Pretty hoppy aroma, with floral and orange citrus tones, with a sweet dark malt roastiness, bordering on mocha java. Big body, and superbly balanced between sweet burnt malts and citric floral hoppy bitterness. Nice long linger, with a spicy herbal hop finish, but even then the dark malts follow through.

From the Jug at the GABF, Colorado Convention Center Denver 18/09/2010 Big hop aroma. Mid brown coloured fruity and hoppy with a pineapple flavour. A hint of dryness in a bitter and nutty finish.

This is a really nice Cascadian Dark Ale. Or Black IPA. Or American Style India Black Ale as was the category that this beer took gold in at the 2010 GABF. Aroma is resinous and citrus with that great balance of caramel, roast and perhaps a touch of cocoa. Dark brown in color with just a hint of ruby around the edges. Fairly clear with a nice dark tan frothy head that is pretty persistent. Awesome flavors spring up out of this beer. Medium+ resiny and citrus hop bitterness with a medium malt sweetness that tastes of caramel, roast, cocoa and maybe even the slightest suggestion of mint. Medium body with a nice sticky texture. Medium carbonation. A good long finish that focuses on the hops. Well done.

UPDATED: DEC 31, 2010 Tap @ Belmont Station during their Cascadian Dark Ale Festival... A great pour - deep, dark brown -- almost black -- with a big, frothy, brown head. Floral. resinous, high alpha hoppy nose. A well rounded, apparent roasted character to the brew contributed to the enhancement of the contrasting citrus, piney, bittering hops that were there all the way to the finish.

An interesting take on a newer trend of making black IPAs. Pours thick and has a brownish amber coloring, not quite porter like in color, more of like a dark brown ale. Citrus hops challenge everything else for dominance in the nose, light hints of resiny bitter on the palate, and a caramel/toffee sweetness in the malt. Different, but I am not sure if I like this one or not, would definitely have to try it again.

Courtesy jayg. Very dark brown/black with brown edges and a small, tan head. Flavor and aroma dominated by hops- citrus, resin, pine spicy florals. Malt support is mildly sweet and toasty with some subtle cocoa. A bit of chocolate malt? Medium body, balanced carbonation, easy to drink. Excellent change of pace for an IPA.

(Hand Bottle) Pours a mahogany body with a moderate tan head. Aroma of cocoa, citusy, and toasted bread. Flavor of citrusy hops, roasted/brown malt, and light coffee.
