trac_ej4 (2), Lyle, Washington, USA does not count Aug 4, 2006 On Tap regularly at the brewpub.
Clear dark amber with minimal head. A nice smooth malty flavor with a hint of smoke from the malt and some hop for balance.
The finish of the Whiskey Malt is a bit sharper than Barley’s Scottish. BrewDad (1691), Olympia, Washington, USA Oct 8, 2006 [GABF 2006 – Denver, Co]
Dark brown in color with a heavy whiskey aroma this was a great sipping beer also this had a lot of strong malts and whiskey flavors I liked this beer.
JMFG (1177), Florida, USA Sep 17, 2007 On tap. Cloudy caramel color with a thin broken off-white head. Creamy palate, nice low carbonation palate. This really reminds me more of a Scottish with some smoke hints, not a straight-up smoked beer. Nice light smoky caramel malt aroma present. Slight sweet beginning to the taste and a filling malt character throughout. A nuanced Scottish. Angeloregon (2008), Portland, Oregon, USA Jul 21, 2008 Hazy dark amber-orange-sienna body with a tiny white head. Mild malt and smoky nose. Full-bodied clean and crisp. Another crisp clean easy drinking Barley Brown offering! BlackDonald (1039), North Carolina, USA Aug 13, 2008 This is good, usually what I order here, unless they have a new seasonal. This is always a consistent choice. Dark amber in color, with a small off white head. The smokiness is very faint in the nose, not overly pronounced, but begins to show more as it warms and on the palate. A light bit of wood whiskey notes, melds into a caramel maltiness. I would like to see this amped up into a wee-heavy, and throw in a light bit more peat smoked malt.
