Commercial Description:
Our brewers have been busy creating something special in conjunction with the Lion Brewery in Wilkes-Barre. Belgian beer lovers behold...Barley Creek has a Witbier on tap! It’s a classic “white beer” with a cloudy appearance and brewed with orange peel and coriander to give it that light, refreshing finish. Witbiers were born in medieval times so we’re naming this one; “Iron Arm Belgian Style Ale”. Old Iron Arm was a Belgian king in medieval times who “Explored” Europe the only way a king knew how to explore…with and Iron Arm!

Draft at BCBP. Deep copper pour with off-white head. Aroma of cherry and berry fruits, fuky yeasty esters, hopcitrus. Tastes earthy malty, with some tart cherry notes, mild florals, and hopcitrus. Almost gets gueuezy as it warms, with the fruit staying firm and tart. Unique and prettyy good.

On tap at the Barley Creek Brew Pub. Poured a medium to deep orangish color with a very small sized off white head. Aromas of fruitiness (apples and pears), citrus and spicey. Tastes of citrus, candi sugar, light spices and fruity.

not sure what happened since april 15th, but this beer was a complete diacetyl bomb, not to mention the other nasty of flavors. No orange peel or coriander, or belgian yeast character either. Was clear in color also.

Re-rate: The brewers re-worked this beer completely by brewing it with rock candy. The wit quality is gone or diminished. It has some nice acidity along with the orange peel and coriander. I like it 100 times better than the previous wit (I’m making my own wit soon so I’m not a wit hater). The beer is darker now and not clear. I may need to beg for a growler of this to share. I had three of these in my 22 oz mug. ****************** I had the same horrifying experience-I took my daughter to the game room and came back to find the orange dipped in my beer. This is a wit which is easy to drink and should knock widmer off their tap rotation even though it lacks the body widmer hefe has. I swear I detected a slight orange flavor without the fruit being present. The carbonation is lighter than BC-s previous beers. This wit isn’t bad as it has nice light mix of malts and hops BUT there is no assertiveness period. This will be big commercially but needs something extra to appeal to the Ratebeer/BA crowd. Its nicer than the light beers BC has so I hope this means no more Creek Lite or Navigator Gold!

Updated 4/20/2008. I think there were some changes to the recipe in this year’s version compared to last year. Arrived at the table a cloudy orange gold with a moderate off-white head. I requested no orange slice with my beer and was obliged. The aroma was fruity orange with some spice. The flavor was strong orange to the point this almost seemed like a fruit beer. Mildly sweet with very noticeable coriander at the finish. The orange in this year’s version seems much more pronounced than what I remember, as is the spice. A good summer thirst quencher.

Original review 4/15/07. On tap at BCBC. Despite the desciption, this beer was a crystal clear light gold with a thin white head that faded to a ring about mid-glass. The beer was served with an orange slice, which I promptly removed. The aroma was very light with some malt and a bit of orange. I don’t believe the orange was from the orange slice because I was still getting that aroma at the bottom of the glass. Flavor was also a bit light but very pleasant with malt, a touch of orange, with a light hops finish. Nice smooth mouthfeel, this beer is definitely quaffable. 6-3-7-4-13=3.3
