3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20 BBB63 (5023) - La Porte, USA - FEB 2, 2006
Handbottled flip top from Rich, many thanks! Served in my Stone IRS snifter: Poured a very deep brown with a small fizzy head that left a little lace. Boy when they say it is a Chocolate porter, they were not kidding as the nose has a huge Nestle Morsel aroma with a hint of plum, raisin, grainy malts, grassy hops, and liquor vapors. The taste pretty much followed suit with a rich mocha character supported by some mild coffee and hop bitterness. What I like is the surprising hit of smoked wood on finish for it added a nice level of depth. The feel is thin and oily, but like Rich states before, a heavier body may have made it undrinkable. Overall a tasty treat and one I could enjoy again.
2.1 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 2/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 8/20 tmoreau (1346) - Lombard, Illinois, USA - DEC 13, 2010
Short 12 oz. bottle. Gushed for quite awhile, then deposited a milkshake-like liquid into my glass. After finally settling down, it showed a rather clarified deep brown, with ruby highlighting, overly abundant, tan bubbles and cream to the head foam, and thick, clingy lacing. The aroma presented tart, almost sour notes, cocoa, some light malt and roasted qualities, nuttiness, and a hint of vanilla. Any of the quality aroma notes abandoned the flavor, which was sour, light bodied, and overly fizzy. Thus, unfortunately, drain pour! This was a competition bottle, maybe 6-7 months old, but a Porter should hold up that long, or even longer, esp. from a commercial brewer.

Alright, something was wrong with mine. Had the smell of vinegar and tasted very sour and tart, overpowering the choclate. Didn’t finish it but didn’t ask for another. I guess I’ll have to try it again some day.

Growler thanks to Louie R. Pours an opaque very dark brown, nearly black, with a thin, medium colored tan head. No lacing. Pleasant aroma of chocolate and some roasted malt in there as well. The flavor was very nice with the right amount of chocolate. Not overpowering and not excessively sweet. Some light roasted coffee flavor at the finish is a nice touch. As others have noted, a bit thin in the mouthfeel, but otheriwse very quaffable. My wife and I both enjoyed this beer.

Nice porter with a typical dark color - sweet aroma that has more chocolate than most detectable in the style. Sweet, roasty taste that is quite pleasant. I’ve been less than thrilled with this brewery in the past, but this is pretty good stuff.

Dark Brown, tan head. Light on the mouth feel. Taste has chocolate in it, some bitter finish. Ok, Tap at Andy’s.

UPDATED: FEB 24, 2008 Rerate 2-23-08: This one had a bit of a soda appearance with a soap-bubble laden head and the body seems too creamy for the style. The hop seemed a bit on the astringent side. I think I had the end of the keg or the lines needed cleaning.
Old rating:
This one was loaded with chocolate with a roasted flavor, some smokiness in a nice blend of flavors. It definately qualifies as a porter but its mouthfeel is a bit too wet for my liking. Just as Rich mentioned, it could use some more body to it because it has some delicious things going on for it!

Sampled at Dickinsonbeer’s NJ January gathering. dark brown to black opaque color, tall frothy & foamy tan head. aroma is yes, like hershey’s syrup - dark choclate, but sweet! raosted malt too. flavor is chocolate syrupy malt and some roasted malt too. smooth mouthfeel, low carbonation. thanks Trip via Rich!

Draft Pours hazy blck with a tan head. Aroma is of chocolate and coffee. Has a touch of hoppiness. The head has great lacing and is lasting. Taste is smooth and good. Has an oily texture. This is a touch sweet but it is definately a good porter and worth a try. This was my first beer at the brew pub so I could fully enjoy it. Its very good.
