VeloVampire (400), Parkdale, Toronto, Ontario, Canada Jun 23, 2007 Updated: Aug 17, 2007 341 ml bottle, courtesy of my brother - one of the new ones, with "Barley Days Harvest Gold Pale Ale" on the label, not the old Glenora Springs one. Anyway, pours a clear medium gold colour with a very thick two-finger head that lasted throughout most of the glass. This alone tells me they have retooled the recipe in some way, as most previous raters mention a distinct lack of head. Aroma earthy, herbal hops, some green apple, and wet hay. Fairly sweet. Taste candy-sweet up front then fades to a fairly bitter finish. I’m almost certain the new brewery has reformulated this recipe, because though this one isn’t going to win any awards anytime soon, I think it is unfairly rated on here, and shouldn’t have to bear the ratings of the old "Red Coat Pale Ale". Simple and refreshing.
blankboy (2609), Toronto, Ontario, Canada Sep 30, 2008 On tap at Pub Italia. Pours a pale golden-orange with a small diminishing white head. Aroma: Hmmm, it’s yeasty, almost Belgian-like, a bit mild and with fruit, light spices and light hops -- nothing like a Pale Ale. Flavour’s yeasty and spicy along with some grain and hops showing up just in the finish. Average bodied. It’s fine but man oh man this is not on style at all, I even wondered if they gave me the wrong beer but I double-checked and they swore it was the right beer. Time to rename it? Tessic (383), Brantford, Ontario, Canada Aug 21, 2008 This pale ale poured a light yellow colour with a nice big bright white head with a little lacing. To the nose there are scents of pineapple, yeast, apricots and a little earth thrown in. First taste was hoppy but a little watery. Strong floral hopps with a little bit of ripe fruit and corn ending with a yeasty finish. Palate is hoppy and bitter. mabel (1662), Toronto, Ontario, Canada Aug 4, 2008 [1269-20080409] 341mL bottle. Corn vegetable yeast aroma. Clear, golden yellow brown body with a medium-lasting creamy white head. Grainy yeast flavour has light sweet corn hints. Medium body. Nice and yeasty, otherwise fair. Maltybones (51), Hamilton, Ontario, Canada Jul 12, 2008 Appears a pale yellow with a low, filmy head and medium-to-high carbonation. Aroma is grainy with citrussy hops and a faint hint of cooked veggies. Flavour is grainy, working into more biscuitty malts as it warms, finishing with a mix of bitterness and hard-water mineral. Mouthfeel is thin and a little soapy. Average. robinvboyer (1048), Sturgeon Falls, Ontario, Canada Jun 14, 2008 amber/orange pour, small white head that didnt last very long. I keep smelling this, and i’m not geting anything......its basicly like pale malt, and maybe some hops, but really there isnt much here. Flavour though is nice. I’m getting quite a bit of english hops, some nice goldings, and maybe some fuggles. A nice bitter finish, with some good citrus from the hops. Not bad.
