COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
This oak aged ale is a blend of our 2011 Brown Ale (since renamed Royal George Brown Ale) and County IPA. It was brewed with a blend of 7 different Prince Edward County hops varieties and aged for almost a year in American oak barrels, built by the nearby Carriage House cooperage. It has a red/copper hue and a firm, hoppy aroma. The subtle, natural carbonation and mild bitterness allow the realization of the full body and caramel malty sweetness. Keep cold until ready to serve. Serve at 12 – 15 degrees Celsius.

From bottle. Pours a light opaque brown colour with light tan head.light sweet aroma with scent of light oak, and toasted malt. Initial flavor is malty, bread and some nuts leading on to a fine bitterness that lingers pleasantly. Throughout is the flavor of the oak which is nicely balanced and never imposes itself unduly.

Bottle picked up at the brewery. Pour a rich brown colour, with a thick tan head that sticks around for a while. Aroma of molasses, and malt. Taste...yep they oaked this right up. Strong flavours of oak, with malts coming in second and oddly a touch of ...uh... cheese. (Writing that is a first.) Hops take a seat way at the back of the bus. Definitely an interesting brew and worth a try. Might not drink it all night but might go nice with a selection of cheeses.

This is aged in NEW American oak. Bottle from brewery. Pours a casky (read: dull) carbonation in a slight murky brown-gold coat - no head, obviously. Aroma is a bit bratty and wild, with hay and herbal funk under the sweetness. Taste replays this with added layers of fresh oak - not overdone, but I’m glad I aged the bottle two months, there’s some oak tannins here! Layers of toffee (from brown ale) and herbal bitterness (from the English-style pale ale.) Bread-like sweet-grainy malts. Not mind-blowing, just pleasantly quaffable, oaky and good and has that important ’rare’ taste most of you will in this case never get to experience (one-off barrel edition of 300 bomber bottles.) There will be more of these Barley Days experiments.
