radiomgb (1711), Peterborough, Ontario, Canada May 11, 2008 Deep amber in colour, thin beige coloured head, light lacing. The aroma is toasty with some toffee, nuts and light malts. The flavour is a bit on the watery side, thin, very light roast, moderate sweetness. Incredibly empty mouthfeel, thin body, mild carbonation. Finishes thin, quick and watery.
Totally lifeless and empty, very plain. I hate buying beers like this. Absolutely no originality in this beer.
341ml bottle from the LCBO in Peterborough, Ontario.
Opened on December 11, 2007.
No date.
robinvboyer (961), Sturgeon Falls, Ontario, Canada Jun 9, 2008 nice maltiness in the aroma, lots of caramel, and toffee, with a huge sweet amlt. Flvour is sweet, and again very malty. not a bad ale, but not great, its pretty one dimensional. Blasphemies (45), Ontario, Canada Mar 30, 2008 BOTTLE: Looks like a glass of coke when poured out. Not a bad smell to it, malty sweet. Taste a little disappointing, kind of weak, roasty with a bit of bitter. I had a sip in the past of it on a draught and thought it was decent, but I have to rate the bottle this time. probstk (627), Nepean, Ontario, Canada Nov 22, 2007 341 mL bottle in 6-pack from LCBO, served slightly cool (like me...) in a tulip glass.
App.: Deep auburn, clear, remnants of a light tan head.
Aroma: Sweet malts, nuts, a bit of fruit, maybe a touch of earthy hops back there somewhere; pleasant.
Palate: Medium body, medium carbonation/effervescence; many ratings mention weak body and strange carbonation, but I didn’t find anything particularly wrong with them.
Flav.: Nutty, some of the sweet malts, a few darker-roasted malt tones, slightly vinous, a bit earthy, some light earthy hops; a little off-dry, a touch of bitterness and brightness, a little cardboard and a touch of lingering toffee.
Certainly tastier than the Pale Ale. Inoffensive and drinkable. JaPe (65), Toronto, Ontario, Canada Oct 23, 2007 Dark Biter flat carbonation hint of fruit but not sweet.... Bitter flavor seems very prominent. Not horrible, but not my type of beer.
