Commercial Description:
Barley Days Brewery’s Wind & Sail Dark Ale is a dark chestnut ale that unfolds its aromas under a rich, smooth head. Full of nutty goodness, and with a core of dark chocolate flavour, this fine brew helps you discover the exotic side of Canadian craft beer. Both exciting and well rounded, this clear dark ale, with 5% alcohol and a nice earthy finish, has all it takes to be a year ‘round favourite.

Pours a dark brown-black with a small beige head with poor retention. Aroma is very sweet and dark. Tastes surprisingly well-hopped - I was expecting something full of molasses & underattenuated. Still very sweet, but well-balanced against the hop and nutty flavours. Lightly carbonated thin body. Quite quaffable - thanks to Robin for the trade!

Pours a deep burgundy with a very small off white to tan head. Nose is moslty roasted malt and some chalky dark bitterness. Flavour is very much the same thing. A little bit of coffee and dark bakers chocolate. It is kind of chalky in the finish, and there is a bit of toffee flavour in there somewhere if you pay attention. It is pretty creamy, but the carbonation is a tiny bit sharp for the creaminess to really feel right. Not bad though. Tastes a bit dark for how red it looks, but otherwise an enjoyable beer.

Another from this brewery. It was nice, but nothing special either, I do not know why it is labeled as a Dark Ale it was not so dark.

341 mL bottle: Dark brown roasted chestnut color tan bubbly head. Aroma is heavy, reminiscent of wet hay. Flavor wants to be complex but falls short and has vinegary mouthfeel. Good beer, plain no pretenses.

This ale poured a black colour with a nice dense, foamy, tan coloured head. To the nose there are scents of roasted malt, caramel, ripe fruit and coffee. First taste was serious on the roasted side, slightly thin but the flavour makes up for it. Slightly smokey with flavours of caramel and coffee bean. Finish was burnt and slightly bitter. Very good, reminds me of the Stone Hammer Dark from F & M Brewery in Guelph, Ontario, Canada
