I tried this beer on draught on April 13, 2012 at "C’est What" in Toronto, Ontario, Canada. The beer poured a solid black colour with brown edges and a creamy brown head. Aroma was coffee, roast, and chocolate. Mouthfeel is medium bodied, better than a lot of canadian stouts. Flavour is slightly sweet and choclatey with ample nut and coffee notes thrown in.

A dark dirty stout with a thin mocha head. In aroma, a sweet fruity chocolate with light boiled veggie notes, a bit off. In mouth, a light watery stout with bitter metallic notes, astringent, rather unpleasant. On tap at Arrow and Loon, March 28, 2012.

On tap at C’est What?. Black murky pour like French press coffee, light tan head. Aroma is roasted coffee, a little boozy, dark chocolate. Oily mouthfeel, quite dry. Same roasted notes with molasses. Finishes sour like a tamarind candy. Didn’t feel balanced to me. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Tap at C’est What. Deep black pour with a creamy tan head. The aroma is quite lovely. Lots of mild coffee and cocoa along with a lovely soft palate. Moderate sweetness but lots of malt complexity mid-palate. This really contrasts with a lot of brews that typify the North American approach to stout brewing. It light, but not thin; it’s roasty but not charred; it’s balanced but not bland. Man - I was expecting nothing and am pleasantly surprised. Kudos to the brewer.

Caramelized malts and molasses on the nose, with hints of roasted barley. Pours a very dark brown with no head. Roasted malts upfront with molasses with a roasted marshmellow flavor. Somewhat sweet. Not bad, best I’ve had from this brewery.

On tap at the Victory - came near-black with a cinnamon head that lasted for about half the pint and left meagre lace. Aroma of bitter chocolate, a touch of dark roasted coffee, even a bit of a winy note. Flavour is nice, dry dark cocoa powder, black licorice, roasted barley. Dry finish. Very nice stout from Barley days, would get again.

Aroma base of brown malts with noticeable hint of roast – blend of chocolate and coffee
Appearance dark brown/black ale with small beige head. Good looking. 4-.
Flavor and Palate : Lighter bodied. frontal dry barley roast , slight hints of chocolate. Dry that was on empty side. Did not carry very far.

2010-01-14. Black body with a nice frothy brown head. 5 flavour is quite dry and roasty up front, light cocoa notes, very light tangy notes in the finish. Aroma is mild lightly roasty and dusty. Average plus palate. Pretty decent stout but a bit drier than my own preference. Probably the best I have had from Barley Days. On tap at Volo, Toronto

[3551-20110114] Cask. Strong coffee nut roast and sweet caramelized toffee malt aroma. Black body with a long-lasting creamy tan head. Burnt roast nutty malt flavour has a long lingering sweet burnt aftertaste. Full body. Really enjoyable to sample, great nutty characteristics, but would like some mid-tone balance. (9/4/7+/3/16)
