COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Sweet tasting malty brew, medium hop bitterness. Dirty Helen, legendary tavern owner, supposedly could outswear anybody in town. An American original, just like our tavern style brown ale.
ABV varies between 4.3% to 5.2%

Bottle. Pours brown. Large light tan head with good retention. Mild malty caramel aroma. Bitter nutty flavor. Mouthfeel of the same. Overall a decent, but relatively average brown.

Pours dark brown, nose of chocolate and caramel, maybe a hint of peanuts. Heavy with malts, but a good nutty sweet flavor. A tad bitter on the end. Not bad..

Mediocre. Heavy on the malts, caramel, toffee and some off flavors. Butter. Brown sugary sweet. Not particularly thick, but the body is decent.

Bottle from the singles rack at Binnys. Pours medium brown with foamy head. Dissipates rapidly to reveal a hoppy bitter nose and taste...a little too much...covers the malty body...not bad but not top of the pile.

This wasn’t terrible, but not one of the best brown ale’s I’ve had. A bit too much on the malty and bitter side so that it took away from the actual flavors. Nice brown color with some white head and lacing. Overall a mediocre version of a brown ale.

Pours a clear dark ruby amber with a generous head and swirls of lace. Taste is a chalky caramel malt laced with light citrus bittering. A little heavy for the low abv, but drinkable.

Aroma is malts, earthiness and a hint of fruit. The flavor is fruit, mild toffee, malts and a smooth finish.

High carbonation. Fruitier brown. It is decent, definitely more of a "brewpub" beer in quality.

Bottle. Pours a deep ruby brown with a smaller off white head. Nose is lots of citrus hops, which surprised me, along with some molasses notes. Taste is pretty bitter with some sweetness. Lighter side of medium on the palate, lively, and refreshing. A lot of complexity to it. I think this is way underrated. It drinks like it has a higher ABV, and is a great beer for hopheads. I was impressed.

Cloudy brown with slight red tint, large creamy head..Aroma is coffee and nuts. Tastes is malty, woody, bitter chocolate...sort of musty.Decent carbonation....My second try on this one, they both just seemed a little off to me....kind of a bruised tea flavour and smell....not great.
