hotstuff (4219) - Indiana, USA - FEB 7, 2014
Rated on 6-07-2009 (White waxed bottle) This beer pours a small beige head that mostly diminishes, transparent reddish brown body, visible carbonation, and spotty amounts of lacing. The aroma is malty, dark fruits, touch of clove, and alcohol. The taste is sweet, lightly bitter, malty, dark fruits, spicy, alcohol and sports a dry finish. The palate is sticky and soft carbonation. This beer is light-medium bodied. Overall, this beer is quaffable and the 10% ABV makes its presence known in the aroma and flavor but it is not overdone.

Lukaduke (2312) - Portland, Maine, USA - JAN 1, 2014
2008 Vintage. Pours a chestnut brown color with a finger of khaki foam that dissipates quickly. The nose is sweet dates with a trace of booze, raisin and stale cardboard. The palate is a strange combination of stale peanuts, flat cherry cola and some earthy leather and vinous tannins. Not really coming together... strange brew and age has turned this a touch funky and oxidized.

In short: A lame Abt-style attempt.
How: Bottle 12oz. Vintage 2008, grey wax top. Consumed when approximately 1.5 year of age. Sent to me as a bonus by… someone. Thanks… dude
The look: Cloudy ruby body topped by a medium beige head with medium retention
In long: Simple timid nose of dried dark fruits. Taste is almost as restrained as the nose. Dried dark fruits, candi sugar, toasted crusty bread, plums, dusty yeast. All that turns into a disturbing burnt caramel a burnt fruits after-taste. Overall this is not very tasty for such a strong ale. Even the alcohol is nowhere to be found. The beer is aiming for an Abt kind of flavor spectrum but mostly fails. Not a bad beer, but not something I want to drink again or needed to drink once. But they say beer can actually be good for you if on average people would drink 1 or 2 beer every week. That’s good news, but some of us have to make up for the 2 billions of non-drinkers.

12oz bottle. Ruby red with a beige head. The aroma hasa decent level of vague fruity esters with caramel and bread crust as well. Very sweet flavor with brown sugar and some ripe and dried fruit. Syrupy mouthfeel. Big dried fruit and caramel thing going on, but to the point of unbalance.

Pours a clear brown with a small light-tan head. Aroma is bready and fruity, with caramel and booziness evident. Sharp bright fruity taste, sorta tart, sweet booziness, brown sugar, esters galore, a bit of spiciness. This has magnitude but no direction. Like a scalar.

sherm1016 (1170) - Milwaukee, Wisconsin, USA - MAY 6, 2010
Received a bottle of this in trade @ DLD 2010. Overall, I would say this beer is worth trying once, but not something I would seek out again. Alcohol is somewhat noticable, but not overbearing. Leaves a bit of a spicy aftertaste.

SanfordBrewer (1391) - Sanford, Florida, USA - APR 21, 2010
hazy mahogany, ring of tan head.

aroma: very rich and good, warm, dark fruit, dark candy sugar, rum and coke.

taste:
T1= dark fruit, dark malt, some leafy hops.
T2= dark fruit, very sulfury metallic whack, slight belgian dubbel funkiness.
T3= fairly dry, not much once sulfur/metal wears off.

sulfury metallic wallop in every drought ruins everything else going on. has some oud bruin character in the background. could be good with tart, salty food.

Pours a hazy amber brown color with a tan head. Aroma is caramel, musty, yeasty, clove, grain, and some earthy hops. Flavor is caramel, toast, plum, toast, coriander, and a bitter spicy finish.

Nose is full of dark fruit, candi sugars, caramel, and some light Belgian yeast. Pours auburn with a fizzy non lasting head. Sweet dark fruit throughout. Lots of raisin, figs, caramel. Candi sugar, some earthy notes are there. Sweet throughout, but not cloying. Alcohol is noticeable, but not over the top. Nice carbonation as well.
