Modeled after the British-style "bitter" this is the lightest and least bitter beer we brew. Crisp and refreshing with just a hint of hops.

My wife ordered this and i snuck a few sips from her. Not a lot of flavor going on, as far as hops or bitterness. Pretty bland stuff. The new Surly Bitter is a far superior brew to this one.

Golden color with faint white head. Hoppy nose with faint citrus. Refreshing bitter body with a dry, vaguely grainy finish.

rating from memory, growler. pours amber with a small head. aroma is yeasty, wheat, and subtle caramel malt. flavors are pretty watery, carmel, slightly bitter finish, nothing to special.

Draft @ BP. My least favorite beer of the night. Too light in body and flavor for my liking.

Pours a clear copper color, with a good two inches of light tan head. Moderate lacing. Mild malty aroma. I taste a subtle yet complex malt structure. Caramel, toasted grain, and mild honey. The hops are is a lightly spicy, lightly citrus, and very pleasantly bitter. Some more spice and grain in the finish. Light bodied, smooth, and so drinkable. Very thirst-quenching.

Pale orangeish yellow in color. Aroma of yeast, english hops and straw. Really a lot of what you might inhale in a barn. East Kent, maybe fuggles fight as bravely as their weak strength allows to make things interesting. Very bready, a bit lagerish. Fine stuff.

On tap at the brew pub: Beer pours clear golden color with an egg white head. Aroma is grainy, bready, with some cardboard. Flavor is bitter, unfinished, with some cardboard. Is grainy and malty. Ho hum.

On tap at the brewpub, August 2006.
Translucent, quite clear and modestly orange colored with a creamy white fluffed head and whipped cream shaped retracting lacing. Fresh sacks of grain on the barnyard floor drum up the nose with a ragweed extension. Shredded and sealed dried orange skin, caramelized wheat, marigold floralness and dried rosemary seed fulfill the last of the frenzied, farm-fed nose. Flavor proceeds in anticipated format. Husky barley gives feed stock mustiness, like chewing on caramelized cracked grain. Light body with a fuggle-esque bitterness. Hints of orange zest offshoots into a tried-and-true small beer continuum. Quite the deviation from the brewery’s other beers.

Pours dark orange to amber with a small head. Very very light aromas of yeast, wheat, and a little malt. Flavors are of an average bitter: carmel, hops, slightly bitter finish, nothing to distinguish it from any other bitter.

Amber colored pour. Very true to style as an english bitter beer. Easy drinking. A good session beer at only 3.5% ABV. Would have scored higher but I had trouble getting a good aroma out of this one.
