UPDATED: OCT 18, 2010 Pours a deep brown with medium head. Aroma is sweet and malty with hints of nuts and wood. Complex flavor of sweet malts, woody and earthy notes, nuts, vanilla, maple syrup, and toast. Medium body with low to medium carbonation. Very good brew.

On tap at Great Taste of the Midwest. Pours a deep brown with a moderate head. Aroma is very strong with nuts! (haha! sorry...) Very smooth nutty flavor, with a nice malty body. I’m not big on brown ales, but this one was fantastic!

Dark brown. Beatiful creamy off white head. Nutty aroma. Smooth grainy aroma and flavor.

Transparent, very dark mahogany body. Silk cream, lasting. Soft aroma unfolds slowly with everything pleasant this style can offer. Vanilla, dark toffee, dried fruit, milk chocolate, caramel. Every element restrained and huddling up against the next for an easy autumn warmth. Beautiful. Pure and quenching flavor of hazelnut, vanilla, roasted almonds and creamed berries, lingering over a toasty chasm of bready, syrupy malt. Bit of brisk English tobacco ash, perfectly placed in a roasty, punchy mid palate. Texture is firm but resigned; lightly carbonated and balanced on tightrope. Finishes smoothly, drawing out with a whiff of grassy bitterness amidst a carafe of creamy Belgian chocolate. Enormously, but quaintly, evocative, giving all the best that a simple brown ale can give; subtlety, rusticity, malty warmth, and friendliness. Absolutely stellar example.
