COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Our signature ale! Brewed with MN grown wild rice and hopped with Willamette hops, this brown ale has ties to the American-style brown, but the vanilla nuttiness of the wild rice make it unique to us.

Sampled from a growler at DLD - Pours brown with a short offwhite head. Aromas of caramel, nuts, and some grapefruit. Flavor is caramel and nuts upfront, but there is a nice hop presence in this in the finish. I didn’t find the vanilla, but I did get lots of almond in this. Very interesting brew.

On tap pours amber/brown with a medium tan head. Aroma is fruity with caramel, and fruits. Flavor is caramel, fruits, nuts which all really compliment the earthy wild rice flavors, and I really love wild rice. Really nice brown!

Tap at Barley Johns. Brown copper pour with a soapy kahki head that fades and shows nice lacing. Aroma is roasted malt and some dark fruit. Taste is roasted malt chocolate and bitter dark fruit. Palate is medium and chaulky dry finish. Good stuff!

On tap at the brew pub into a tasting glass...A dark brown with tons of blood red highlights. A light tan head that is creamy, great retention, medium lacing...An aroma of caramel, dark fruits, and grainy rye character that I believe is the rice. No typical brown flavors of roast or nuts...An awesome taste that makes you go, wtf, where did those flavors come from? Fruits with a distinct chocolate covered raspberry taste, a lighter version of a kre. Grainy rice on the back. Alcohol is hidden well. As it warms the brown ale flavors start to come through, light roast and nuts. This is an awesome and unique beer that is a must try. Not only does it taste great but it keeps you guessing throughout.

Notes from last night at the brewpub. Dark brown in color with a small khaki head. Aroma consists of chocolate and an earthiness that can only be attributed to the wild rice. Flavor follows with big chocolate notes and and obvious wild rice notes. Slightly bitter finish. Damn good, if not the best, brown ale I’ve had.

On tap at the brewpub. Poured a clear amber brown with a near white head that dissipated quickly to the edges. Aroma had sweet grains joined by chocolate with a hint of earthiness and vanilla. Flavor was similar with sweet grains and bread coming through as there was an underlying of chocolate and vanilla.

Appearance: light brown; earthen. Clear and luminous with a soothing down-home quality. Khaki head once more leaves lace all around the glass in her wake. Held up to light, ruby highlights glint and glimmer.
Nose: nutty, brown rice, whole grain rice crackers. Hint of chocolate mingles with the nuttiness; toasted. A light airy quality overall.
Palate: light and airy just like her nose promised; amazingly so and quite enjoyable. Dry nuttiness with a dry finish which sucks the moisture from the back top of my tongue. Brown rice in each quaff, fresh dry and without additives or preservatives. Creamy mouthfeel adds to the amazing lightness of body; a tribute to the rice. Chocolate truffle powder is a faint hint underneath. Brown rice crackers.
Final Thoughts: interesting and good. A fine tribute to what a little ingenuity with rice can do in terms of adding flavor instead of trying to rape, pillage, and kill it. A fantastically intriguing different beer and of the four I tasted while at Barley Johns Brewpub, my favorite.
