COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Our first Belgian style ale is a smooth and dangerous dark strong ale. Aromas of spicy yeast, including clove and allspice, and toasted malt, along with hints of concentrated dried figs make for a complex and warming ale. It’s the perfect way to help get used to the long shadows and growing nights of Autumn. Drink enough, and you won’t notice the bumps that go in the night, though you may make a few!

From a growler. Dark amber color with a small beige head. Aroma of grainy malts, yeast and some spice. Taste of medium sweetness, lightly sour, some dark fruits and hops, medium body, sticky, soft carbonation.

Sample at the Alehouse on 12/26/11. Nose contains dankness, fruit and toffee, along with Belgian esters that are more subtle on the banana, almost like a trappist yeast. Flavor starts with toffee and booze, then moves to banana and spice before a peppery finish.

At home in a tulip from a take home growler. Pours a rich red brown with a nice head of small tan bubbles that lace nicely as it is drank. (drunk?) Nose is a sweet twinge of alcohol over red fruits and raisins. Taste is a mild sweet happy blend of caramel, raisins and just a bit of a bread presence. Body is smooth and full. Finishes nice with a good bit of alcohol warming to give it heft.

On tap at the Tip Top Kitchen in Columbus. Deep reddish brown color with a thin off white head that disappeared quickly and entirely. Dark sugar, spice and alcohol in the nose. Burnt sugar and caramel sweetness with some dark bread, banana, puffed wheat, and raisens. It has the spices and sweetness of molasses cookies.

UPDATED: FEB 4, 2011 On draught at Barley’s Ale House #1, served in a snifter. The beer is a dark reddish-amber color with a thin off-white head that dissipates quickly. Sparse spots of lacing. Aroma of dark malts and fruit. Medium body with flavors of fruit, yeast, caramel malt and spices. The finish is malty with a mild spice and yeast aftertaste. Pretty good overall.
