3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 17/20
Draft. Served in a pint glass. Okay. Appearance is light black/dark brown with shades of red coming through at the top and bottom when held up to the light. A little light in color for my tastes, but whatever. A small tan head sits on top but disappears quickly. Aroma is rich, malty grains, sweet chocolate and a wee bit of roastiness. Taste is rich, chocolately, a little bit watery. Body is too thin for the style. This seemed like a very robust stout more than an imperial stout. This was certainly tasty but cannot hold a candle to many in this style.

4.3 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 18/20
Served in Pint glass. Poured dark black with minimal tan brown head once arrived at my table. Brown sticky lacing was left around the outside of my glass for the duration of the sitting. Smells of sweet sugar and dark malt. At first, taste is of bitter chocolate, but at the end of the sip at the back of my tongue there is a sweetness from molasses. It is not overpowering but adds a very unique characteristic to this big stout. Enjoyed this drink very much!

4.4 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 18/20
Growler from the brewpub. Poured a dark purplish-brown color with a thick light-brown head. Strong lacing. Nice aroma with a blend of roasted malt, coffee, and chocolate. Flavor is smooth, with a nice malt taste and a coffee-like finish. A very nice offering from Barley’s.

3.2 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 13/20
Looks are deceiving as this RIS gives a first impression of thinness, with a watery view thru the top of a headless, dark brown body. Dark roasted coffee aroma with a mild alcohol presence. Thick, full body without being sticky nor choking. Chocolate & coffee flavors lead to a dry finish. Well, maybe the flavors are a little thin, not quite living up to the aroma. Great potential here but it needs some work.

3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
Growler via trade with OhioDad - Pours a dark brown color with a thin light tan head that faded pretty quick. Aroma is roasted malt and coffee. Flavor is also roasted malt and coffee with some chocolate to go along. After taste is slightly dry and bitter. Light to medium body. Doesn’t quite have the body of an IS. Still, a very nice beer. Thanks Scott.

4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
UPDATED: JUL 3, 2007 Very dark pour, slight head. Very dominated by chocolate, bitter chocolate, coffee, easy drinking though, as its easy on the aftertaste, very solid brew. Thanks to Ty5592 for the hand bottle

3.9 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
Dark brown pour with a light tan head. Nice aroma of roasted malts, oats, and coffee. Flavor is a nice, roasty mix of roasted oats, dark chocolate, coffee, and a bit of subtle hops. No "monster" Impy, but very drinkable

4 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
Growler... This beer rocks!... Pours very dark, sits black with a mid-sized, creamy, tan head. Decent retention. Smoky, chocolaty, coffee nose. The flavor is nicely hopped, balanced and very drinkable with offerings of dark, bittersweet chocolate, tons of roastiness and light acidity. Full-bodied and ultra-creamy with lively carbonation. Finishes chocolaty, acrid, then dry. Dangerously drinkable. Kudos to the ever generous boboski for supplying the growler!

3.8 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
Courtesy boboski. Black with thick light tan head that quickly dissipates down to a thin layer. Light cocoa notes, nice mild hop presence, overall aroma was light. Creamy palate. Slight hop and roast character. Finish was dry with a mild roasty bitterness. Drinkable, with many of the traditional RIS flavors kept in check rather than turned way up.

3.8 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
Growler, courtesy boboski. Pours a pitch black with a thick, foamy light brown head. Very creamy and chocolatey aromas. Some vanilla blends in as well. Some mild hops are present in the background. Very creamy and easy drinking for an imperial stout. Hops are noticeable throughout, but take a backseat to the roasty chocolate and dark malts. I could drink alot of this brew.
