Commercial Description:
Inspired by a long Bavarian tradition, Black Mountain is an unfiltered dark lager. Full bodied, Black Mountain's taste is a careful blend of dark and caramel malts, imparting balance to the yeasty flavor. It's a beer for hearty appetites.

Sample at the brewpub. Pours a dark amber-brown color with a thin beige head that dissipates quickly. Spotty lacing. Lightly roasty aroma with mild malt and coffee. Medium body with toasted malt, chocolate and mild hops flavor. The finish is lightly smoky with malt and hops flavors that linger a bit. Somewhere between a Dunkel and Schwarzbier, albeit not a great example of either. Average overall.

Some coffee aroma. Head is non-existent and poor. The flavor on this is mostly thin and wak. Easy drinking but nothing’s there.

Draught at the brewpub
Black color. Poor Schwarz, some caramel, light chocolate malt, less dry than other Schwarz.

Dark brown with light at the bottom. Smoky grain nose, light burnt malt flavor, sweet malt nose with the smoky grains... but almost flavorless... everything is so mild and thin... and there’s even some sour cream and milk. Not good.

Little to no head atop a tawny body (Dunkel? I think not!) Decent nose of sweetness and toasted malts. Palate was way too soft and watery.
