India Pale Ale is a beer style that’s increasingly popular with both craft brewers and beer geeks throughout the United States. By now, you might even say it’s mainstream in microbrew circles.

The style was originally developed for the long journey from Great Britain to their troops in India.

Because beer spoils easily without refrigeration, brewers had no choice but to load up on hops, a natural preservative. To balance that move, they added more malt, which upped the alcohol, the other natural preservative.

You get to enjoy it because we like to brew a big, bold beer. Lucky you.

Sampled on draft at the brewpub this beer poured a hazy golden-peach color with a large foamy white head that left incredible lacing. The aroma was strong citric acid, lemon and grapefruit. The flavor was tangy, tart yet sweetish with strong grapefruit and lemon notes. Very long finish. Medium body. Solid.

on tap @ Smokehouse / Columbus OH --- Nearly clear light amber color, off-white head, dots and spots of lace. Taste is straight malt that moves through a fizzy swallow to a finish that takes a long time to show hops. 71 IBU? It doesn’t seem likely.

A nice clean drinking centennial IPA with the associated citrusy aromas and flavors. Not world-beating, but it doesn’t have to be in their solid lineup.

draft at brewery,, very close to two hearted, a little lighter and less sweet which I like much more than two hearted. Very clean and nice finish, a very easy drinker.

Draft @ Barley?s, CMH. Nice citrus aroma. Light orangish-golden color w/white head that lasts & great lacing (big bubbles though). Flavor is citrus, like apricots, and very smooth. Full, creamy mouthfeel. Overall, a delicious IPA!

Nitro tap at mm new Albany. Smooth and heavy for the ipa but that's the nitro. Great overall balance with hop bite and citrus burst. Nitro makes this awesome.

On tap at barley?s brewing in Columbus Ohio. Centennial ipa is a lighter apricot beer with a thin head of small bubbles. Nose is a crisp and slightly herbal hint of hops. Taste is a nice hop bite on the front that isn?t overpowering. A nice lively body and a good finish. Very balanced ipa.

Draft to taster. Looks good; a slightly hazy golden blonde with eggshell head. Smells solid; loads of Centennial hops with a medium-bodied pale malt backbone. Tastes like it smells with a solid mouthfeel. Could be dryer, but enjoyable nonetheless.
