kramer (1888), sunbury, Pennsylvania, USA Feb 9, 2008 Growler, via Puddintane. Pours a mostly cloudy dark brown body with a small fizzy beige head that faded to a partial covering quickly. Nice chocolaty and roasty nose with some light chalky yeast. A little nuttiness and cocoa powder. The flavor is very chocolaty with a nice slightly hoppy and slightly fruity dry finish. Maybe a little thin. Mouthfeel is medium bodied with a watery texture and nice soft gentle carbonation. Overall, a pretty nice Porter, maybe a touch thin, but still good. What’s odd though is that I really didn’t get any cherry flavor at all out of this. I would have never guessed that this was a fruited Porter. ogglethorp (800), Ohio, USA Jan 29, 2008 On firkin. Pours dark brown with a rocky white head. Aroma is cherries, chocolate, light roast. Flavor is cherries, chocolate. palate is medium bodied, light carbonation, finished lightly sweet. Another dissapointing brew, thin and watery, atificial flavor, not good. sliffy (1951), Columbus, Ohio, USA Jan 7, 2007 On tap @ the smokehouse: Dark brown to black pour with a tan head. Aroma of roasted malts, some chocolate and just a hint of cherries. Flavor, roasty, lots of chocolate malts, a pleasant hint of cherries, and some roasted bitterness on the finish. I really liked how the cherry was just an accent on the porter character, not the star of the show. spector (906), Lancaster, Ohio, USA Dec 30, 2006 Chocolate and cherries stand out in the aroma.Pours black with a slight tan head.Flavors include chocolate, coffee, and some light cherries.Medium mouthfeel with some bitter chocolate in the finish. moejuck (1111), Ohio, USA Dec 28, 2006 On draft at #2. Pours is almost black with deep red hues. The aroma is of dark roasted malt, with just a hint of cherries. Palate is full with good carbonation. The taste is very good roasted malt flavor with a hint of cherry taste--that doesn’t dominate the porter qualities. Slight hop kick at the end finishes off a very nice brew.
