Bigger than either an English or American IPA in both alcohol strength and overall hop level (bittering and finish). Less malty, lower body, less rich and a greater overall hop intensity than an American Barleywine. Not necessarily as high in gravity/alcohol as a barleywine. A showcase for hops. Warning: this ale is 10%+/- alcohol by volume and extremely bitter!

Growler at DLD. Poured a nice golden color with a thin head. Hops, hops and lots of hops in both the aroma and flavor. Alcohol hidden very well. Not much complexity, this is just a vessel to deliver a full frontal hopal assault. Would like some more comlexity, but still a quality brew.

sample from a growler at DLD. thanks to however shared this. pours murky orange. hop nose was lacking for the style some caramel notes too. flavor was more on the malt caramelly side and this was that bitter. pnw fruity hop notes. alcohol was really well hidden. to me this leans on the BW side a bit.

Thanks to hopdog for sharing this growler... Appears a hazy, light gold with a small, light tan cap of fluff that fades into a mild collar. Spots and streaks of lacing are left around the glass. Smell is yeasty, citrusy, highlights of grapefruit, pine, orange, caramel, and dusty grain. Taste is of the mentioned aromas perhaps stepped down a notch with the greatest flavor coming in the form of hoppy grapefruit and orange. Mouthfeel is medium bodied, yeasty, and bitter with some decent malt standing up in the background. It’s hard to believe this one was 11.5% abv. It went down pretty easy.

Thanks to hopdog for sharing this growler. Pours a hazy amber/orange with a medium off white bubbly head. Aroma of orange, floral, some pine and caramel. Flavor of grapefruit, pine, lots of hop flavor and bitterness. Bitterness lingers and alcohol comes forward as it warms.

Growler acquired in trade with bgburdman9 (thanks!). Poured a medium to deeper and cloudy amber color with a large sized off white head. Aromas of grapefruit, pine, oranges and caramel. Tastes of pine, caramel, and citrus (grapefruit and orange peels). This one was nice and bitter with a malty backbone. Alcohol content well hidden. Nice IIPA...

Served on tap in a snifter at the Smokehouse with some grilled wings and sauerkraut balls. Slightly murkey golden amber hue with thin slight white head. Flavor was grapefruit and hops. Nice sharp bitter aftertaste. 11% ABV was detectable and appreciated. This is one of the better IPA’s that I’ve tasted to date. I would order this again.

Sampled from a growler on 8/26/06: Pours a clear copper orange with a thin, wispy white head. Aroma of sweet, toasty caramel and big, fresh citrusy piny hoppiness. Body starts with a viscous sweet caramel maltiness, nicely-balanced with a more bitter, fresh, resiny hop presence toward a bittersweet, slightly warming grapefruity finish. A pretty good double IPA.

9/29/06: On tap @ the Smokehouse.
Aroma of malt, alcohol and fruit (plum). Light to a medium brown body with a low amount of carbonation. Very little lacing. Flavor is fruity (citrus and plum) with alcohol and a touch of sugar. Hoppy (pine) finish.

Growler thanks to my boy Trep. Poured a hazy amber color with a medium off-white head. The aroma was big and full of hops. Piney and sweaty with a decent amount of caramel mlat showing through. Malty flavor mixed with plenty of earthy and piney hops. Notes of candy as well. Nice warming sensation.
