Draft at brewpub. Light amber body, malty nose, small white head. Very sweet start, cloying, honeyed notes, not smoky, finishes with bready malts.

Draft in a sampler at Barley’s #1. Pours a clear amber color with a small off-white head. Aroma of caramel malts, toasted sugar, wood, resin, and light peat. Flavor follows the same lines faithfully. Medium-bodied, with modest carbonation and a soft, malty mouthfeel. Simple Scotch ale. Fun to try next to the bourbon-aged version.

Sample at the Alehouse. Pours cloudy amber with a thin off-white head. Malty and boozy aroma of brandy, cherries and caramel. Caramel malt flavor with cherry and a boozy finish. Awesome scotch ale.

On cask @ Barleys Pours a light amber with a decent white head. Has a good malty aroma of caramel sweetness. Has a good mouthfeel. The blend was good and the alcohol was hidden well. Has a full body. This one had a good finish and a good aftertaste. I haven’t had a lot of cask but this was a good one to have, full flavored and darn right good. Might not be for everyone but I loved it.

3.3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20 Sammy (6113) - Toronto, Ontario, CANADA - JUN 18, 2008
Of a series of Scotch ales. This wee eavy is lighter, carmel, peat, orange colour and some lace. Some carmel and peat in there. A hint of the orange taste. I liked this because of the peatiness.
3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20 Rogueone (506) - I F&ckin’ hate those guys from, Ohio, USA - JUN 5, 2008
Sample @ the brewpub (No. 1): Pours a caramel brown with thin head. Aroma is toasted caramel malts and alcohol. Akin to their scottish ale, this is like adding half as many more malts, a tinge more sugar, and a lot more alcohol. Just mildly bitter.
4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20 AleDude (41) - USA - APR 13, 2008
A powerful scotch ale with a deep copper color and thin head. It has a medium body and a slight sweetness that helps fight off a strong alcohol taste. A good beer -- I get it whenever it is available.
3.8 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20 DrHomolka (761) - Portland, Oregon, USA - MAR 27, 2008
On cask at the Alehouse. Pours a deep cloudy ruby color with a nice compact foamy white head on top. Super malty aroma. Deep, thick barley, sweet caramel. Just like their other Scotch ale this smells like sticking your face in a mash tun. Taste is smooth, thick, with sweet, bready malts, low bitterness, full bodied though drinkable. The cask does nice things to this beer. A very good beer. Barley’s really knows how to do Scottish/British styles well.
