COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Our traditional pale is is back. Traditionally, a pure balance between roasted malts and fresh hops, this year's version is a bit more hop forward, yet retaining classic pale ale style characteristics. If you detect a slightly different taste than the pale ale you've had for years, it's probably due to the use of Argentinian Cascade hops. The Great Hop Shortage has depleted the entire Pacific Northwest hop supply until at least this fall. So there's no confusion, we're calling this version "House Pale Ale."

On tap @ the Smokehouse: Pours a clear copper with a white head. Aroma, caramel and an earthy herbal hop presence, some citrus. Flavor, caramel, pale malts, citrus and earthy notes. Pretty tasty.

4/11/08: On tap @ Smokehouse.
Light brown-orange body with a small, creamy off-white head. Some lace. Fresh, citrus hop nose. This beer has a really bitter hop flavor with a touch of caramel malt that is quickly overpowered by, yes… bitterness.

Darkover (1448) - Columbus, Ohio, USA - MAR 29, 2008
Clear copper color with a small beige head. Aroma of citrus hops and sweet malts. Flavor of hops and bready malts. Leans more towards an english pale ale and seems maltier than the regular pale ale.

Dogbrick (4828) - Columbus, Ohio, USA - MAR 19, 2008
On draught at Barley’s Smokehouse. This re-tooled Pale pours a clear orange-amber color with a medium thin off-white head that diminishes steadily. Aroma of citrusy hops and sweet malt. Medium-bodied and moderately bitter with hops and citrus flavors, plus a touch of toasted malt and spice. The finish is hoppy and short with just a hint of lingering orange/grapefruit. Decent overall.
