Draft, clear brown with reddish highlights and a small off-white head. Nice dark-roasted, malty aroma. Flavor is smokey, coffee and hints of bitter chocolate. Medium body and easy carbonation. Nice brew.

Pint on nitro at the Smokehouse. Pours black with a creamy tan head. Roasty malt aroma with some coffee and a hint of black cherry. Full-flavored roasty coffee with a bit of chocolate and a creamy finish. Good stuff, and missing that watery character a lot of nitro brews have.

Black with white crowning head. Chocolate aroma, medium mouthfeel. Served room temperature which was appropriate. Nicely undercarbonated as almost all of the beers are, and therefore easier drinking as less bloated factor. A chocolate porter.

Sample @ Brewpub: Pours a dark caramel color with bubbly, thin white head. Aroma is heavily-roasted chocolate malts and some vanilla. Hops are blatant in this brew, as this porter is almost too crisp. Some carmel undertones. Tasty overall, but lacking of the robustness and fullness of other porters I have tried.

Firkin at the alehouse. Pours dark brown with ruby edges and almost zero head or hints of carbonation. Nice strong roasted chocolate aroma, chalky, malty - typical porter aroma but a good one. Taste is the same with a silky mouthfeel, smooth as hell, with a slightly watery and bland finish. I don’t know if the firkin covered up any faults with this but the low carbonation created a creamy and very enjoyable mouthfeel and an easy drinking brew. Good.

draft at brewpub appearance: dark caramel brown, thin ivory head....aroma: lightly roasted malt w/ little of anything else....taste: thin bodied, bitter roasted chocolate with a lightly hopped finish. way too carbonated and mouthfeel could have been more enjoyable. an average porter.

On tap. Black with a sparse white head. Thin to medium palate. Aroma is a nice blend of cocoa and roast. The cocoa comes out really nice in the flavor, along with the roasted flavors, which linger well through the finish. One of their better offerings I had during my visit.

On tap at #1. Dark chocolatey brown with slight red hues and a relatively thin tan head, dense. The nose is rather subtle. Creamy with some roast. A little bit of coffee and roast-associated astringency, but no chocolate really. The mouth was full and creamy with a bit too much carbonation for the style, in my opinion. Big roasty sweetness, though rather mellow and drinkable. Creamy with some coffee and again, no chocolate. A lingering roasted bitterness was a bit less than 100% clean, especially for a porter. In some ways, this was like a watered down stout more than a porter, though certainly not bad!

Sampled from tap on 11/08/2006 at Barleys Smokehouse (Ale House #2)... Dark mahogany color with huss of ruby red. Aroma was milk chocolate and hints of coffee. Foamy, light brown head. Flavor was chocolate, nutty, and malty, with a dry, yeasty finish. This one was probably my favorite of the current Barley’s offerings.
