Tmoney99 (3636), Cincinnati, Ohio, USA Apr 20, 2005 Tasted at MRAF in Columbus. Poured a Hazy light orange color with medium head. Due to bourbon barrel aging, the aroma and flavor was strong in bourbon. Interesting brew as a barleywine but use the cask with the stout. Sammy (3135), Toronto, Ontario, Canada Jun 19, 2008 Remaining amount of this year’s winter warmer on cask, enjoyed at the Smokehouse. Jack Daniels barrel aged. Lots of barley in there, served appropriately at room temperature. Brandy colour with a whisp of head. Corn bourbon aroma. Sourish. One case where barrel aged did not work for a beer. OhioDad (2492), Hilliard, Ohio, USA Jan 9, 2006 On tap at the smokehouse - Pours hazy amber with an average offwhite head. Aroma of bourbon big bourbon over some fruity hop notes and some alcohol. Flavor is a blend of those same flavors with some caramel and some definite orange notes as well. Palate is somewhat sharp due to the alcohol content in this one. I think this is a big beer! Pretty tasty.. Dogbrick (2266), Columbus, Ohio, USA Apr 17, 2005 Cask version at Barley’s 3rd Annual Mini RAF (04/16/05): Hazy orange color with a medium thin and bubbly beige head. Not a lot of lacing. The aroma...Do You Like Piña Colada? Whatever barrel this was aged in was not stingy on the coconut aspect of Jack Daniels. Medium-bodied with just as much piña colada/coconut flavor as in the aroma. It is really kind of off-putting to me. Some nut and spice flavors as well but this doesn’t hold a candle to St. Nick’s, or their normal Christmas beer for that matter. I understand where you would barrel age something to imbue some of the desirable elements into the beer, but this is just too much. The finish is similar to bourbon. I’ll pass on this next time. sliffy (1951), Columbus, Ohio, USA Oct 29, 2006 2005 vintage on the firkin @ the smokehouse: Clear dark brown color, with absolutely no head. Aroma, malt and alcohol, caramel and molassas. Flavor, rich caramel and molassas, alcohol, almost no bitterness, and it was very hot. Interesting to say the least, I’de really like to know the ABV.
