In this part of the USA, we craft breweries tend to brew IPAs with some European influences. That’s true at Barley’s as well. Our Centennial IPA is influenced by British IPAs from several hundred years ago. Until now. We decided to brew a true "wake up call" West Coast hop experience, using hops from the Pacific Northwest, adding a malt backbone and finishing with dry hops. This is an IPA for the indie spirit that lives in all of us.

Taster on tap at Barleys on Dublin. Mostly clear orange color. Thin off-white head, leaving good, thicker sheets of lace. Nice orange citrus creme aroma up front in the nose. Nice light caramely malts. Medium to bigger body. Smooth, kind of soft, lighter carbonation. Very smooth. Lightly slick. Bigger bitter taste. Light bit of sweet. Light zest. Light bit of alcohol warmth towards the end. Nice resiny, kind of dank hop to the middle and end of this. Good longer aftertaste, lightly spicy. The warmth in the end works well with the hops, it turns into just a hint of hoppy heat. Light sweet bite at the end, but I really enjoyed this one overall.

Draft to taster. Looks solid; a mostly transparent light copperish orange with eggshell head. Smells solid; a fairly bitter hop profile with a mildly sweet pale malt backbone. Tastes like it smells, but the hop profile is more balanced. Smooth and light on the palate. Enjoyable.

Poured on cask. Pours a clear copper with a nice white head of foam and decent lacing. The aroma is slightly herbal and fruity. Taste is just mildly bitter. Reminds me of an English pale, really. Creamy mouthfeel.

Pint at the Smokehouse. Clear amber/copper pour with a medium off-white head. Aroma of orange, grapefruit, malt, pine and some floral notes. Orange flavor up front, but an incredibly strong floral character jumps in. A bit of grapefruit interrupts for a moment, then the bitter floral onslaught continues through to the finish. Like sucking on a rose petal. Nose was awesome, but the flavor was too over the top floral for this beer to be truly great.

Firkin version at Barley’s 9th Annual Mini RAF (05/14/11): The beer is a mostly clear copper color with a medium thin off-white head that recedes steadily. Short strings of lacing on the glass. Citrusy aroma with malt notes. Medium body with flavors of citrusy hops and toasted malt. The finish is fruity with touches of malt and pine left over. Decent overall.
