COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
It’s a west coast style pale ale, and we call it Left Coast. Blonder than our flagship pale, it’s crisp and dry, with a touch of lingering hops. Perfect for greeting the warm spring. If you haven’t had it yet, it’s best you come in. We don’t deliver.

Poured on draft. Translucent light copper with a white head and good lacing. Aroma is fruity and grassy. Mildly bitter and grassy. Nice session beer.

5/20/2009: Left Coast Pale Ale has a clear, golden appearance with a thin, foamy, off-white head. It has a floral, perfumy aroma. The flavor is orangy (or some other sort of citrus) with some lightly toasted malts and a floral finish that reminds me of rose. The bitterness level is mild. Overall this beer seems a bit weak for a pale ale.

Cask: Golden color and slightly hazy with a frothy off-white head. The aroma and flavor are very buttery. There is some grassy hops and is a bit more hoppy and slightly more bitter than the non-cask version. This beer has a medium body and feels soft and mellow in the mouth.

Draught (sample) at Barley’s Smokehouse in Columbus, Ohio. Rating #14 for this beer.

On tap at the Smokehouse. Clear copper/amber pour with a medium white head. Malty aroma that is a bit like English malt with some citrus hops. Citrus hop flavor up front with a bit of malt and what tastes like (but isn’t) lager yeast. I was told this was a bit more flavorful than their flagship pale, but I’m not tasting it.

Draft at smokehouse before MRAF 2009. Poured clear copper color with an average frothy white head that was mostly lasting with good lacing. Solid balanced sour citrus hoppy aroma. Medium body with slick texture and soft carbonation. Medium balanced bitter flavor with a medium smooth bittersweet finish of moderate duration. My expectations where met with a solid drinkable brew.

Tap @ smokehouse: Orange cloudy pour with a lone finger’s worth of white head. Flavor is perfumey, buttery hop with a bitterness in the back of the throat. Spicy and light on the front end, bitter on the back end. Aroma is really buttery for a West Coast IPA.

On tap at Smokehouse. Pours pretty pale golden color, hazy with a small bright white head. Aroma is pleasantly hoppy, moreso than expected. A nice citrusy hoppiness, oranges, amarillo? Or maybe Centennial. It’s nice either way. Taste is smooth, hoppy, super-drinkable, low in bitterness but pretty flavorful. Medium-light bodied. This doesn’t knock your socks off but it would be a good session beer. Three other people I was eating with mentioned Diacetyl in the flavor and the aroma. I thought I was pretty sensitive to it but I didn’t notice it in this except in the flavor if I looked really hard. It wasn’t distracting though. This really hit the spot and is pretty much exactly what I would want in an American Pale.

Enjoyed at the Smokehouse location. A different pale, less hoppy and higher carbonation than their flagship pale, but still similar. Orange tinge, moderate orange in the flavour. Not a bad one.

On draught at the Smokehouse. This brew is a hazy yellow-orange color with a thin and foamy off-white head that dissipates steadily. Spotty lacing on the glass. Spicy hops aroma with some straw and malt. Medium-bodied and moderately bitter with hops, citrus and spice flavors supported by a mildly malty base. The finish is citrusy hops with a lightly spiced aftertaste. Pretty good overall.

On tap at the Smokehouse: Pours a clear golden color with a white head. Aroma, grassy and herbal hops with some pale malts as well. Flavor, pale malts, grassy, some citrus, bready and herbal. The finish had some light bitterness. Solid stuff.
